Getting Arty with Diana!🎨🧑🏼‍🎨

This afternoon, we had the pleasure of welcoming local artist Diana and youth worker Tia into the ‘big class’ for some fun art. The boys and girls who already attend Diana’s ‘sketchbook socials’ art classes at The Millenium Centre were very excited because they said ‘Diana has the best art ideas’ and this afternoon was no exception!!🥳

This term, the upper class have been learning about colour and creating art work in different mediums. So far, we’ve created colour collages, water colour pictures and this afternoon’s artwork was on whisky crate plastic (cool right?!)👀

Diana introduced us to artist Wassily Kandisky and his famous circles art work, she spoke to us about the colours and how they made us feel. Diana had brought with her some very pigmented acrylic paints and pouring medium which stopped colours mixing when layered on top of each other – we thought this was very cool! 🟡🔴 She gave us the task of painting a rectangle on the whisky crate plastic, which represented us.. some people started with a love heart, some a cloud, others a diamond! The boys and girls expanded their shape and added layers of colours and by the end each rectangle looked completely different. We agreed that this was because, just like the rectangles, we are all different and unique! 👦🏼👧🏻

The fabulous art work we created this afternoon will be going on show in the Millenium Centre car park, Diana is going to be going around all the rural country schools and continuing the rectangle art work with all the boys and girls from the village schools and once completed, should be ready for display by December. How cool is this?! We can’t wait to see our Kandinsky inspired art work on show at the Millenium Centre! 🖼️

A huge thank you to Diana and Tia for their fabulous art lesson this afternoon! Jayden said “I’m really proud of mine” and we are super proud too!
