More Maths Week Fun! 🍰💰💸

At Leswalt, we love cooking and baking, and ‘Maths Week Scotland’ is the perfect opportunity to put into practice some maths learning! This afternoon P1-3 made ‘fifteens’ or ‘rugby slice’. The ‘little class’ counted, measured, shared their ingredients (15 of each) in their groups. They cut the cherries and marshmallows in half , crushed their biscuits, added some condensed milk and mixed together into a sweet concoction. They then shaped their mixture into a log and covered with coconut shavings.. YUM! 🥥 The groups chopped their logs into equal parts ready to take home.. look out for these coming home in school bags… if they make it that far.🤫😉 Well done Team P1-3! Pictures coming soon!

Following on the foodie trend, P4-7 were tasked with ordering breakfast food supplies for Mrs Baillie and Mrs Kyle. Waffles, pancakes, fruit, smoothies.. we know how to order a good breakfast!🧇🥞🥝🥭🥛 And, after brainstorming some items for our shopping list P4-7 set to work! On the Asda website, the boys and girls worked in partners to plan and cost their shops. They were given a strict budget of £60 and soon realised that official coco-pops and buttermilk pancakes were off the cards…🥞🥣. We were very impressed at how savvy they could be with their shopping. They used calculators to multiply the cost of 1 item by their desired quantity, while being mindful of their £60 budget, they quickly realised that taking advantage of Asda’s ‘rollback’ prices would be a good move! 💸At the end, they were asked what maths skills they’d been using; ‘decimals’ ‘adding’ ‘multiplying’ ‘money’ ‘budgeting’ and ‘using a calculator’. A busy afternoon applying so many skills!🤓
