P1M 2019-2020 31.1.2020

Its been another busy and productive week in class!

Literacy

We have learned two new sounds this week which are ‘igh’ like ‘light’ and ‘ow’ as in ‘snow.’ In reading the children are becoming more independent and learned how to sound out tricky words when we get stuck or missing the word out then looking for clues on the page/picture.

As part of our Literacy we have also started learning some favourite songs, with Makaton through ‘Singing Hands’ on YouTube. This week we have enjoyed learning how to sign to George Ezra, ‘Shotgun.’

If you’d like to carry this on at home I’ve provided the link below.

Numeracy

We have been consolidating our knowledge of addition within 10 this week and next week we will begin to use this knowledge to work with money.

The Body

There was high excitement on Thursday afternoon as we discovered more about the human heart. We learned that the heart pumps blood around the whole body. We then conducted an experiment to see how the heart squeezes and pushes blood around.

Here are our star writers of the week are Eva and Kole! Well done! Your news stories were fabulous.

P1M 2019-2020 20.12.2019

This week the children have enjoyed many fun activities in the lead up to the Christmas holidays.

On Thursday the children were surprised to find a reply from Santa after the children had posted their letters a week before.  He wrote them a lovely letter, left a Christmas story for us to enjoy and even a bag of candy canes! Wow!

On Thursday afternoon the children got dressed up in their party clothes and enjoyed the P1-3 Christmas party. The children played party games and took part in a few Ceilidh dances. Santa even took time out of his busy schedule to visit us and leave a present for each class. Our class received a guess who game and a hungry hippo game.

I would like to this this opportunity to say how incredibly proud I am of all of the children and the progress they have made in their first half of P1. I would also like to say thank you to all of the parents and carers who work so hard at home with the children and together we are really making a difference. Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 6th January 2020. Merry Christmas and a very happy and healthy New Year to everyone.

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope you find the following information useful. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Learning in Term 1:

In term 1 we learned all about life at school and the routines that we follow here at Redwell Primary. We focussed on creating new friendships within our class and finding out about all the people who help us in school. We really enjoyed reading The Lighthouse Keeper’s stories and finding out about Mr and Mrs Grinling and their cat Hamish.  The stories also provided an excellent stimulus for writing.  We wrote speech bubbles, imaginative stories and shopping lists.  We have been developing our knowledge of number this term and will continue to do so in term 2.

Homework will continue to be issued on a Monday and should be completed by Friday. There will be a selection of Numeracy and Literacy activities and occasionally topic related tasks.  Reading books will also be sent home and you will find details of the books in your child’s diary.   Please make sure that your child’s diary and reading books are kept in their red folder every day.

Your child should also have a clearly labelled water bottle everyday which is filled with plain water prior to arriving at school.  Please ensure your child has a labelled weather appropriate jacket as there will be outdoor learning opportunities.

You will be able to follow what we have been doing in class each week by looking at our class blog. This can be accessed via the link on our class page on the school website and via the school app.

Our topic this term is Space and the children have leanrned this week about how the Earth spins and its relationship with the sun to create day and night. Next week we will move to talk about nocturnal animals.

As a special treat the children were able to choose a sweet from my witches cauldron which they thoroughly enjoyed and I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween this year.
