Term 3 evaluation and Term 4 update

Term 3 was a very busy one but Term 4 is going to be even busier! Here’s a little overview of what we have been learning and what we are going to be learning in our final term.

Topic

Last term we were learning about the Romans, how and why they invaded Britain and we learned about the lasting changes they made to society. Our school trip is now planned and has a Roman focus, keep an eye on school bags for information about this nearer the time.

This term we are going to be learning about our hometown of Alloa. We’ve decided to transform ourselves into Alloa experts and will be creating mini Travel Agent/Tourist Information type businesses with company names, logo, uniform designs etc. We will investigate the historical importance of Alloa and will think of ways to encourage more visitors. We will also consider the distance and cost of visiting well known landmarks in close proximity to Alloa.

Maths/Numeracy

In term 3 we were learning about Fractions and Decimals. We learned about proper and improper fractions, we learned specific fractions/decimals vocabulary, we learned how to calculate the fraction of a number and we learned how to convert between fractions and decimals. We also completed a block of work on Data Handling which required us to be able to read and create our own graphs.

This term we will be learning about Measure. We have already started to measure using rulers and metre sticks. We are also learning to convert between mm, cm, m and km. We are also learning to calculate Area and Perimeter and will be learning about Weight, Volume and Angle as the term progresses.

Literacy

We continued to read our class novel, Wonder, during Term 3 and are keen to get this finished in Term 4. We used this as a stimulus for our extended writing, writing from the point of view of the main character and using emotive and descriptive words to describe how he was feeling.

We have started another novel this term which will become a focus for lots of our Literacy lessons. The book is called The Wild Robot and we have already been exploring the author’s writing style and trying to imitate this in our own writing. In doing this we have explored the use of descriptive language, onomatopoeia and layout throughout the chapters.

The children will be preparing and writing individual talks this term, so please check homework jotters and bags for additional information about this.

General Information

Our PE days will remain the same this term – Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Mrs Barron will teach Art for an hour every Monday and then will teach in class all day every Wednesday.
