Our class novel is War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, as part of our learning surrounding the story we have been using the text to develop our understanding of adjectives. We had to use the phrases from the passage to draw and describe 2 of the characters – Albert and Mr Naracott.

Some people went out to help Mrs Johnstone in the garden,  we helped with weeding and putting fertiliser on to the plants. In the garden we have pear and apple trees and also strawberries and rhubarb in the planters

In Maths we are working on subtraction and also continuing to increase or speed and accuracy when recalling timestable facts.

In PE we are continuing to work on our rugby skills.

In maths we are continuing to work on place value and also times tables. We are developing our mental agility skills as well through learning tips and tricks that will help us solve problems with big numbers mentally.

We each have a target timestable that we are working on learning. We want to increase our speed and accuracy when reciting facts.

Within our Fairtrade topic we have been learning just how far our food travels before we see it in the shops. We could not believe some of the distances!

This week has been another busy week.

In PE we are learning how to play rugby and football, it has been really fun and enjoyable. We learned that in rugby you can only pass back.

Yesterday, in our Fairtrade topic, we learned how far our food has to travel to reach us.

Today we watched Cressinda Cowell on Authors Live, we read a few of her books in Primary 4 so it was really interesting to listen to her.

We have been challenging ourselves to beat our own record during our “I have, who has….?” mental maths starter activity. We were delighted to complete it in 5 mins 33 seconds on Friday, bringing our time down by 1 min and 11 seconds!

We then beat our record again on Monday by completing it in 5 mins and 11 seconds. We were delighted!

This week we have been working on developing our writing by upleveling sentences and using more creative vocabulary.

In our Fairtrade topic we have been learning about different food and where it comes from. We learned that food such as peas, cabbages, leeks, strawberries and raspberries can be grown in the UK but foods such as bananas, pineapples, aubergines, kiwi and papaya are grown abroad.

Following on from an episode of Newsround that we watched last week we also learned more about Nelson Mandela and why he is a significant person from history. We learned that he was born on the 18th July 1918 and died on 5th December 2013. It is important that we remember him because he fought for equal rights for all South Africans.

In in Maths we are continuing to work on our understanding of number. We have been working on finding out multiples of numbers and partitioning large numbers. We are also practising our times tables.
