End of Term 3

I can hardly believe we’re almost at the end of Term 3! We’ve had a busy term and learned lots along the way.

Our Maths focus was Fractions and Decimal Fractions, along with some Data Handling work with Mrs Hallahan. The children persevered with what is a tricky concept and put lots of effort into their work. We used money as a real life link when discussing decimal fractions and have learned about the connection between fractions and decimal fractions.

We continued to read our class novel, Wonder, and have had some really interesting discussions about the book. It is turning into a favourite book for many of the children and I must admit I love it too!

We’ve focussed on descriptive language and characters in our writing, along with trying to apply VCOP strategies. The children are now being encouraged to extend the length of their writing.

There have been lots of great things happening this term, too many to write here! We are now looking forward to our final term together in P5.

Have a lovely holiday!

WOW Words, Romans and Books

We started a WOW word challenge this week which was great fun and brought out some very competitive attitudes! The children had to beat an opponent by making as many interesting sentences as they could in one minute. Our current record is 13 and is held by Cole.

We had our third visit to Alloa Academy and continued to develop our Coding skills. We are really enjoying these sessions.

The Book Fayre is at Redwell until next week and we had the opportunity to browse this afternoon. Look out for your child’s wish lists in bags and folders!

For Topic this week we made Roman sandals. We worked with a partner to draw around our feet before designing the rest of the sandal. It was a fun activity and we loved getting to work with a partner.

Alloa Academy, Decimals and much more

The last few weeks have been very busy. Have a look to see what we have been up to…

We have even been visiting Alloa Academy on a Wednesday morning. This is a great opportunity to develop our computing skills and we have been really enjoying it.

We have started some Decimal Fractions work for our Maths focus and are making the link between decimals and fractions. We applied our learning to an Olympics task this week by ordering 100m sprint finishing times from fastest to slowest.

We have been focussing on describing the setting in our writing and have been up levelling the vocabulary we use.

Our Science work has been on developing our electrical circuits skills and knowledge. We created series and parallel circuits this week.
