Feel-Good Friday – Fun with Fruit and Veg

For the final day of our Health Fortnight, I thought we could have a bit of fun.  You know how adults always tell you, “Don’t play with your food”?  Well, now’s your chance!

Today’s Feel-Good activity combines creativity with imagination AND healthy food.  Have you guessed what it is yet?

Your challenge is to make a fabulous creature using only fruit and vegetables.

Do remember to ask for an adult’s permission before taking any food to do this activity,  and make sure that you are being supervised if you are using any sharp kitchen utensils.

Feel-Good Friday – Things To Look Forward To

Good morning, everyone.  Time for another Feel-Good Friday activity.

During lockdown many people may be feeling upset, bored or frustrated because they are unable to do all the things they usually enjoy.  At times like this, it helps to remind ourselves of all the things we have to look forward to, once the lockdown is over.

Unfortunately I left all my craft items in school so my jar doesn’t look as pretty or as nicely decorated as I’d have liked.  I’m sure yours will look much better!

Feel-Good Friday – Build a Butterfly Bar!

Good morning everyone.  Time for another bit of Friday fun.

As the weather is getting warmer, we are starting to see more and more butterflies visiting our gardens.  Plants like lavender and buddleia (also known as ‘the butterfly bush’) are very attractive to butterflies, but not everyone has them growing in their garden.  Today’s activity is designed to encourage more butterflies to visit yours.

All the step-by-step instructions are contained in the Sway.  You should have most of the ingredients at home and, if not, they are easy to find.

I hope you give it a try – the butterflies will be grateful!

Skittle Addition

As one of this week’s Numeracy focuses is Addition, and as we are also having an Eco fortnight,  I thought I’d share this idea with you.  It’s a good way to improve your adding skills, it reuses empty plastic bottles,  and it’s a fun outdoor activity for the whole family.

Be a Wildlife Detective

Hopefully you have read the Spicy task on the grid about tracking animals. I know my children have been more vigilant during our walks and spotted nature changing around. We have also been lucky to spot lots of wild animals so I know some of you will be interested to identify what we see. Choose 1 or more tasks below for your home learning.

Sometimes the animals are well hidden or run away at the sign of any humans so we have to look closely for evidence. Here is some evidence we have found in our local woodlands.

Task 1 – Can you guess what we spotted?

Task 2 – Find some prints

Sometimes the animals leave tracks behind and this resource from the RSPB is very interesting, it shows the actual size of animal prints you might find.

Look closely on your next walk  for animal tracks and take a photo or draw an image of what the print looks like, estimate the size so you can compare it with others. Has anyone been lucky and spotted any footprints?

If you have been like us and not spotted any tracks this resource might might help you spot some other animals that like to hide away.

Draw a picture or write a short report on your animal findings, can you accurately identify the animal? How did you do this?

Task 3 – Make an animal tracker

Area and Measurement – Outdoor Learning

In keeping with our Eco theme, I have thought of some maths-related outdoor activities which I hope you’ll enjoy.  The first is on the topic of Area, while the second is on Measuring.

Remember – there are links on the Spicy grid which provide help with calculating area and measurements.  Check them out if you’re unsure about anything.

Good morning, everyone.

I hope you have enjoyed taking part in the challenges and activities that we suggested for you this week.  I thought we could round off the week with a different kind of Feel-Good Friday challenge.

7. In the Teddy Bar Chart, what bar colour is the small teddies?

Enjoy using your classmates work to answer the questions above. Remember to explain how you found your answer to a family member. What are you looking at closely on the graphs/charts?
