Team P3

We have just started our topic for this term- Nintendogs. We are just getting to know our puppies. We have named them and now we are trying to train them…although some are easier than others!

In ICT today we chose different fonts and designed our own lettering for ‘wow words’.

The Epic Eco Group at Ellon

We had our first meeting today. There are 16 members in the group. Everyone is happy to be here. We finished questionnaires about food, energy, litter and water. Water is the favourite topic to work on but we need to think about transport and waste. We also have to do litter every year. Our goal is to apply for the Green Flag award.

Bryan and Erin have said it needs to be planned and well-thought out so we will make an action plan next time after we decide what to do.

P6

Since we have been back we have been working hard on our project, the Caribbean and learning about the islands. We wrote a description about a Caribbean island and illustrated it.We re also in the process of making a class flag where we all drew ourselves holding hands. In maths we have been working on problem solving, addition and subtraction.

Theatre Modo

Fergus from Theatre Modo came to p 4/5 to make oil rig hats out of  willow sticks. The website has videos you can watch and Theatre Modo was formed in 1995,it is a recognised Scottish charity.Theatre Modo has been producing  memorable shows across Scotland and Europe since 1995 and is filled with theatrical, musical and physical invention.Their shows engage the audience in live performance.

Sooner or later Fergus came back to help us finish our oil rig hats by painting them with a vairity of bright and wonderful colours. Then we all got our face painted very strangely (yellow with blue stripes going down). There is another blog with the drama.

Theatre Modo (Drama)

Suzie fromTheatre Mo-do took P4/5 for a session of  drama. We got to choose our groups and do an act linked to what we are doing for the school’s Golden Jubilee. Our class is learning about oil. We have learned a lot about  oil and how it is dug up. Our groups have to act as machines and make mechanical noises. It has to be like the journey of oil. The theme is the 60s.Our class thinks oil is really intresting! By Sophie.

Theatre Modo Visit P5!

Fergus from Theatre Modo came into our class to do a creative workshop with us.We made animal  headgear and rosettes, it took 2 sessions to complete them. The next day we worked with Suzi and Joanne. We made three still photographs and paraded around the playground. We asked Joanne what she thought of our performance and she said it was BRILLIANT! On the day the event it went just as planned and all ran smoothly except the weather, but we didn’t let the weather spoil it.

Thank You for Joining the Magical History Tour of the 60’s

All our classes, who had been working hard over the last month to research an aspect of the 1960’s and come up with a performance, performed their Magical History Tour to family and friends on Friday 15th June.

Every class performed and performances took place outdoors within the school grounds and at various locations within Gordon Park. The event began with Ellon Pipe Band playing as the audience arrived to watch the P5 class, dressed in animal costumes, reenact the farm animal parades that took place in the 1960’s as part of Ellon Agricultural Show. The audience was then moved onto an underwater scene where the P2 class performed an octopus dance around a huge model octopus to the Beatles song Octopus’s Garden. From there onto a civil rights demonstration being held by out P6 class. The promenade performance involved the audience moving around the outside spaces from one class performance to another ending up at marquees in Gordon Park. A large birthday cake was wheeled into the arena and the children and audience sang Happy Birthday Ellon Primary School. We then all enjoyed birthday cake and juice in the marquees before returning to school.

It was lovely to welcome former members of staff to the event. They enjoyed getting together and reminiscing about old times.

We were delighted with the support from families and friends demonstrated in the huge turn out on Friday afternoon. A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who supported our Golden Jubilee event we really appreciate your support.

Here are a few photographs of the day there will be more to follow soon.

P6/7 and Theatre Modo

Last week  Theatre Modo has been in to help the whole school learn to do creative things like  paintings, drama, dance routines and songs for our Golden Jubilee which is 60’s themed. P6/7 has been making Andy Warhol flags. Andy Warhol was a famous artist in the 60’s. He was famous for his style of art which was pop art. He designed the famous and colourful portrait of Marilyn Monroe. We are making portraits of ourselves in the same style as Andy Warhol’s. We drew pictures of ourselves then made stencils and spray painted them onto material. We will be attaching them to a flag pole and doing a routine with them for the jubilee. We are enjoying working with Theatre  Modo, and hope that our flags and routine will wow the parents.

Modo Madness

Primary 7 pupils have started to create life-sized puppets with the help of Theatre Modo. We have been making the puppets out of withies (sticks of willow) and cardboard for the school Golden Jubilee. We are nearly ready for the big celebration on Friday at Gordon Park and we are learning a routine to go with it.

When we started learning about the 60s we realised how weird and strange a lot things were in those days, so that is the theme of our performance – STRANGE. On Friday you’ll see some strange things like; flying cars, toppling towers and strange animals. Watch this space for photos.

P1R and P1T Moshi Monsters.

For the past few weeks both of the primary one classes have been doing a project on Moshi Monsters. They have done many things such as making play dough moshi monsters, doing a graph to see what their favourite moshi was and colouring pictures. We have interviewed two primary one pupils from each class.

Golden Jubilee Learning Experiences Begin

Golden Jubilee learning experiences have begun in ernest this week.  Primary 1 pupils visited the Winter Gardens at Duthie Park to investigate a variety of plants and flowers.  They met Clare and Arthur who helped them to spot and name a variety of brightly coloured flowers and to create a crafty flower. Primary 1 took photographs with their DSs and they drew pictures of what they saw.  The photographs and drawings will be used to inspire them to create a 60’s floral pattern for fabric.

Visit Ellon Primary School’s Flickr site to view photos from the trip.
