P6 Trip to Alltnacriche Day 3

After our action packed day yesterday we woke a bit tired and grumpy. After breakfeast the red and blue teams went to Loch Morlich to do kayaking and canoeing. Our instructors were Mike and Ross, who were great and lead us through the whole experience so we did not drown. After lunchtime the orange and green teams went down to the Loch Morlich to experince the same amount of fun as everyone else has had.

While they where having the fun on the water the yellow and purple teams were back at the centre using wood, drills, saws and screws to build a Bee’s B&B. They then cycled out over fields and into the woods to find the best spot to put it so bees could start living in it. Some of the other activties that we took part in today were archery and wacky wildlife.

After all the activites we wrote in our diaries and had tea.  After dinner we had our ‘Feet off the Floor time before heading down to sing around the camp fire and toast marshmallows.  Yum Yum! We sung funny songs with Paul and sang happy birthday to Andrew W before having cup cakes for supper! We have had a fantastic time!

We have not managed to post our photos but we will upload them to flicker when we get back and create a like to them so that you can see just how much fun we have had this week.

We are expected to be back at school tomorrow between 2.45pm and 3.00pm.

P6 Trip to Alltnacriche Day 2

We woke up full of excitement this morning looking forward to the  activities for the day. We all had breakfast together before heading out to do various different outdoor activities. The groups were learning lots of survival skills such as fire lighting, foraging and shelter building.  Allan, our instructor told us that we were going to be foraging for food and we found out that  nettles are edible.  Then to our surprise he told us that we were going to eat what we found. That was a shock to all of us. Guess what we made NETTLE SOUP! !!!  It was very tasty.

The purple and yellow groups headed over to Loch Morlich  for water sports in the afternoon.  We got changed into our wet suites got told how to use our paddles and set off across the loch with our instructors. At first some of us felt a bit nervous but our confidence grew as we got going. By the end of the afternoon we all  were kayaking and canoeing like experts.

The orange group were with Sarah, one of the instructors and we made bee shelter for bees to go into. Right now bee numbers are dropping and we have to try and help them to increase in number. Then we went off on our bikes to explore and find a spot to put our bee shelter in. The bike ride was really good with great views and we could see the mountains clearly. It was so beautiful.

We can’t wait for more adventures tomorrow.

P6 Alltnacriche Trip Day 1

Hello Everyone

As you will already know we set of at 8:45 am, and got there at 11:50am. The atmosphere on the bus as we were coming up the hill towards the house was incredible and we were all so excited! When we got off the bus we were all taken into the music room and Alan, one of the centre leaders introduced himself and everyone else in the team at Alltnacriche. Then we were taken into the main building and we were shown around the place. We were taken to our our rooms, which are lovely and we all had to make up our beds. We had our packed lunches and then met in the courtyard and went on a hike up a very high hill called Craigellachie. The view was gobsmacking as we sat stunned in silence. The walk was part of the John Muir Award which encourages people to discover, explore, conserve and talk about wild places. After that we came back we went on a scavenger hunt and lots of us got our trousers wet as we attempted to cross the burn!  We came in and had tomato soup for starters, baked potatoes for a main course and ice cream and jelly for desert. It was lovely!

We have all been put into activity groups and tomorrow we will be doing various different things. They include wacky wildlife, survival skills, biking expedition and water sports. We are so looking forward to all that!  We are finding it a wee bit tricky to add photos to our blog but we will keep trying and hope to have some to let you see tomorrow.
