Sustainability Council (Green Team)

Carlogie Green Team is made up of representatives from each class.  We meet weekly to collect, sort and organise the recycling. This has become a slick operation as we are now well versed in what can/cannot be recycled.

This year we will be reapplying for both our Eco Schools Green Flag and our Fairtrade Achiever School Awards.  We will be responsible for creating a whole school Sustainability Code to follow and implement.
We have responsibility for:
  • whole school reducing, reusing and recycling paper and card
  • ensuring lights and computer monitors are switched off when not in use (Switch Off Fortnight)
  • saving water
  • collecting litter
  • promoting Fairtrade school uniforms
  • sharing information about Fairtrade at school Together Times
  • taking part in Fairtrade Fortnight
We have plans to complete a waste audit in our school dinner hall to try to reduce both food and packaging waste and begin to collect crisp packets for recycling.

We have ventured outside to collect some litter – targeting the area beside the car park.  The team were horrified to find numerous filled dog poo bags that had been thrown over the fence into the school grounds!!! Especially as the dog poo bin is right beside the fence! We shall work our way round small sections of the playground each week.

Collections at home?

Did you know that Carlogie’s Green Team will collect and recycle batteries, ink cartridges and used pens (all types) as well as mechanical pencils? Please send any of these items in with your child/ren and we can add them to our containers.  We also have a “Rag Bag’ in the car park which is well used and often full!  Clothing, shoes, bags and hats no longer wanted or needed can be bagged and deposited in here.  They won’t take duvets or pillows but cases and sheets are fine.

We will be sharing information with the school about Switch off Fortnight soon!

Ready to tackle a wee build-up of litter in our playground. Green Team to the rescue!
