P6a and P6b

P6:

This term in P6 they  have had exciting things around our learning example is; Fairlogie, Forces (experiments) literacy (Poetry and instructional writing) and some maths.

Every Tuesday P6 and P5/6 get together and go through what they need to do before the next cafe. Recently, P6 had their cafe and business was booming.  Sadly they weren’t able to invite all the classes but the nursery were able to come in a small group, thanks to the nursery helpers who gave them entertainment. Altogether we made over £200, with our earnings we will be giving money to the people who help and the rest will  go to the school for new resources, more stock for Fairlogie, Classroom  resources and much more.

During our forces, topic P6 has had lots of work  to do with density, buoyancy and friction. P6 has mostly been working on buoyancy. We have been doing experiments with tinfoil. The most recent experiment was to form a boat that would hold a stacks of 10 (10 blocks=1 person).

We were given fifteen minutes to design a boat and then make the boat. We were given an amount of tinfoil and nothing else. This links in with the UNCRC work we have been doing in class lately.  (refuge children article 22).

In Literacy we have been focusing on poetry. We  have been reciting Scottish poems and have written a Haiku poem.  We have also been learning to write (specific) instructions on how to turn a teacher into a mouse.

In maths and numeracy we have been doing algebraic expression and equation, we have been also learning about BIDMAS. This is what BIDMAS stands for: B=brackets, I=indices, d=divide, m=multiply, a=add and s=subtract. An example of an algebraic equation is 3n-4=2.

Carlogie Cafe – 26.01.24

Today we held a very successful January Cafe at Panbride Church. the first thing we had to do was set out the tables and the good we were going to sell.

The cafe was really busy today with lots of visitors who enjoyed a friendly and relaxing place to enjoy a lovely cup of tea or coffee and a slice a cake.
