P1 and P1/2

P1:

This term in Primary One we are looking at the five senses and have had lots of different learning opportunities to explore this. Part of our focus for maths has been looking at fractions and we have had great fun cutting objects into halves and quarters and discussing what makes them a half/ quarter. Our learning was put into action when we made our fruit salads – this was an excellent opportunity to see what equal parts look like in objects we use every day. It also contributed to some discussion about healthy eating and sparked our interest in food pyramids which we will look at later this term.

We are really enjoying our new challenge of reading books in class and at home. Every day we become more and more confident with building words and reading sentences. We are even enjoying reading in unusual places, such as the forest and different parts of the school! Our confidence with writing has allowed us to build a shop in the classroom. We have created menus, price lists and we are even challenging ourselves to sound out tricky words when we are taking an order!

As part of our senses topic, we are also learning about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and rights which relate to health. Recently we have been looking at how children in various parts of the word have different experiences of accessing healthcare and we have used the UNCRC to measure whether their rights are being upheld.

We are looking forward to sharing ur learning with people from home soon!

P1/2:

This term in p1/2, they have been learning about sustainability  (recycling and growth).

P1/2 have been doing lots of thinking on how to make our school and playground better. Recently P1/2 have done a forest clean up by collecting pieces of rubbish e.g plastic, wrappers of snacks and much more. Some of the p1/2 said that they had enjoyed looking around the forest for rubbish and helping the environment. P1/2 in the spring are going to start planting different plants and vegetables around the school grounds.

In PE, P1/2 have been doing a lot around sports e.g hockey, tennis and much more about developing levels of fitness. A few weeks ago P1/2 had been focusing on dribbling and passing.

Here we are working on our number bonds to 10.
