Cycling Scotland are currently inviting applications to the Cycle Friendly Secondary School Development Fund 2017/18.

About the Fund The fund is designed to encourage and support secondary schools across Scotland to take a leading role in increasing the number of pupils and staff travelling by bike.   Projects should be focused on improving cycling provision through events, training, introduction of bike maintenance, acquisition of bikes where applicable and more. Pupil cycling champions should take an active role in the project. Cycling Scotland will award individual grants of up to £3,000.

Please note that schools already funded by Cycling Scotland during the 2016-17 school year are ineligible to apply at this time.

Applicants are advised to discuss proposals with the Cycling Scotland development team, prior to submitting an application. The closing date for applications is 5pm Friday, 30^rd of June 2017.

School competition to win a table at Barack Obama dinner

The 44th President of the United States will address philanthropy and business leaders at a dinner in Edinburgh on 26 May 2017 at the EICC, and your pupils could be there.

The Hunter Foundation in partnership with Skills Development Scotland and Founders4Schools is offering one group of Scottish school pupils a table for ten at the event. All they have to do is write an essay that summarises what their school would do if they ran Scotland. The closing date for the competition is 15 May. Secondary pupils from across Angus join together to perform in front of a live audience. A night not to be missed!  Held at Coast Nightclub in Arbroath on Tuesday 13th June 2017, from 7.00pm.

Angus Council’s YMI Annual Rock Fest provides a platform for bands/soloists to prepare & perform in a professional and safe environment, encouraging young people to build their confidence and experience in performing to a live audience.

There will be various genres of music from bands, duos and soloists.

Scottish traditional music group, Breabach, will perform in Brechin Community Campus on the evening of Wednesday 17^th May to pupils and parents and a limited number of tickets will be available to the public.  This will be an evening showcasing traditional music from Angus pupils and the multi award-winning Breabach.

Breabach will deliver workshops prior to the performance with instrumental pupils from Brechin High, Maisondieu, Andover, Edzell and music instructor Clare Wilton’s piping pupils. This will involve strings, guitars, harps, percussion and pipes but other genres will have an opportunity to participate also.  This is a night not to be missed.  50 tickets available to the public; please contact KirbyL@angus.gov.uk a maximum of 2 tickets per person.

This opportunity was funded by Youth Music Initiative to give young people more opportunities to take part in enjoyable and quality music making, to develop their music making skills and to increase their awareness of music and culture across Scotland, the UK and the world.

Breabach unite the talent of Calum MacCrimmon (pipes/whistles/bouzouki/vocals), Ewan Robertson (guitar/ vocals), James Mackenzie (pipes/flute/whistles), Megan Henderson (fiddle/vocals/stepdance) and James Lindsay (double bass).
