Dobbies

Children from the Hearing Support Base in Carlogie Primary School have been going out on a Friday morning for Lifeskills. At the moment they have been learning about the different seasons, and so, to fit in with Spring being around the corner we visited Dobbies to buy some seeds and bulbs. We will be planting some potatoes from which we will hopefully get aDobbies 1 bumper crop! The children have set up a colourful display in the Hearing Support Base where they have actively planted Spring seeds, continue to care for them and watch them grow.

Micro Tyco Challenge

posted by Simon Corrie, Primary 5/6 Teacher, Andover Primary School

Throughout November, primary 5/6, 6 & 7 took part in the Micro Tyco challenge. Each class used their entrepreneurial thinking to come up with ways to grow £1 into as much as they could in 30 days.

The children came up with a variety of ideas: holding tuck shops, raffles and car washes. In addition, each class made items for the Andover Christmas Fair. Primary 5/6 made caramelised onion chutney, rustic log slice clocks, jam and candle holders. The primary 6’s made calendars, chestnut figures and reindeer hot chocolate packs. Primary 7 made Kumihino bracelets, key rings and necklaces along with games such as guess the weight of the cake, teddy bear’s birthday and the number of jellybeans in a jar.

The total raised overall was £631.88 and placed Andover in third place for all primary schools taking part.

Angus Athletics Arena Logo Competition

posted by Andy Garnett, Active Schools Lead Coordinator

Dear Colleagues

Fundraising has begun with a vision for a new all-weather athletics track facility in Angus, to be called ‘Angus Athletics Arena’ (AAA).  The organising group with representatives from local clubs and other community groups, are keen to involve local schools in the project and have created a logo competition which is open to school pupils.

A spokesperson for AAA commented “ the logo will be the face of our campaign. We would like school children to design a logo on an individual basis and submit their entry to their school. We suggest they make a donation with their entry (suggested donation 50p) although this is optional. All money raised from the entries will go directly towards an arena. We are looking for something bright and eye-catching that will draw attention. All entries will then be passed onto the steering group where a logo will be chosen by members of the steering group. The logo will then be displayed throughout the campaign and will be displayed throughout Angus, including the local press.

The deadline for entries is 26th Feb. All Arbroath schools are invited to take part and a 50p per pupil donation is suggested to submit along with their design. All designs should be A4 size, you can choose whether the image is colour or black and white. Each design should have a label on reverse side with school and pupils name and their class.   Please send or hand in entries and donations for the attention of Sarah Findlay at Angus House, Orchardbank Business Park, Forfar, Angus DD8 1AX.
