REFERRAL TO FOODBANKS IN ANGUS

posted by Dawn Rennie, Senior Practitioner (Parental and Family Engagement)

As you will know, we are exploring approaches to further support our families who may be experiencing poverty.  After identifying this need we have arranged for all our schools, Primary and Secondary to have access to an e-referral system to Angus Foodbanks.

The families which you work with may, on occasion, be in some sort of crisis. This access pack will enable you to give them almost immediate support to your local foodbank.

The process is (or should be!) fairly simple. There is a comprehensive guidance pack attached as well as a Data Protection consent form. In order for your school to be registered this form will have to be returned to info@angus.foodbank.org.uk.  Once this form is processed you will receive an email confirming your access and instructions on setting up your user name and password.

Please ensure you copy me into this response (RennieD@angus.gov.uk). This will enable us to monitor uptake of this service.

We are hopeful that there will be a good uptake of this service.  The Foodbank have assured us they will be able to meet demand.

Barefoot resources

posted by Carol Lyon, Carol Lyon, Improvement, Angus Virtual School, Schools & Learning

Barefoot New Term Starter Guide #NTSG campaign goes live on 27 August and will run to 31 October.

The new resources provide educators with a pack of materials they can use straight away in the classroom. The keyring gives quick computational exercises and the mini lesson plans provide a condensed version of the full resource. Barefoot have also included a resource tracker so they can record what lessons they have downloaded/used and pupil stickers as a reward for the children when they have completed an activity.

The five assorted resources are:

  • 2D Shape Drawing
  • Bug in the water
  • Pizza Pickle
  • Scratch Jnr Tinkering
  • Variables, unplugged activity

Schools that request a workshop to be delivered up to 31 December 2018 using the campaign code “101” will receive an NTSG 2.0 Pack with their teacher packs that includes:

  • A kick-start guide to Barefoot, including FAQs
  • Five mini resources, including lesson plans and activities
  • A keyring for quick activity ideas
  • Puzzle and pupil stickers
  • A resource tracker that allows teacher to log and track their Barefoot progress

Involving everyone

Alongside the campaign we also have a prize draw running to help us drive more interaction with the program through social media. To take part teachers just need to download all five of the NTSG 2.0 featured resources. Then, simply post a fun image of their class using the resources in a lesson to the Barefoot Facebook and Twitter pages, under #NTSG.

Barefoot will draw a winner at the end of October and they will receive a tech pack of goodies including a digital camera they can use in school.

Please look out for our social media posts on Facebook and Twitter that you can share and re-tweet. #NTSG
