Voluntary Action Fund is launching a £16,000 Competition Fund to enable schools, parent councils, charities and community groups to run arts activities on the theme of “What my *mother means to me…” Each successful applicant can nominate their 2 favourite pieces to be judged at events in March with 6 prizes available.
Organisations, working in Scotland with children aged 10 – 11yrs, can apply for up to £400 to cover activity costs e.g. tutors, sessional workers, art materials, equipment or transport. Children may choose to work individually, in pairs or small groups to produce their chosen art. They can choose to: write a 500 word essay, write a poem, make a short film, use photography or produce a piece of artwork.
Applications for funding should be submitted by Monday 16 January 2017.

Artist & Designer Louise Kirby worked in partnership with Schools & Learning and Angus Council Rangers Service at Monike Country Park, Crombie Country Park and Forfar Loch to develop a Learning Resource to support teachers and early years practitioners to engage very young children creatively in using the park as a stimulus to looking, exploring, listening, talking, making and doing.
Wee Wellie Wander is a colourful, downloadable pack which includes images and descriptors for a variety of rich and creative learning activities using simple tools and natural materials.
While the activities have been designed for the specific parks, most of them are transferable to any outdoor setting.
This CPD session will run through the pack allowing you to try the activities and familiarise yourselves so you can facilitate activities with your pupils. This will be a practical and active session (we will be outside so wear appropriate clothing and footwear!)
The evening will highlight how the outdoors can provide a rich and meaningful context for learning across the curriculum by stimulating the senses to create a memorable experience and to inspire questioning, critical thinking, creativity and expression. The pack encourages cross curricular outcomes.

We are connecting children to nature through our Aldi-funded wildlife workshops
in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Glasgow.
So if you and your pupils are interested in exploring habitats, looking for creepy crawlies or identifying common birds, we have the session for you. Our trained educators will deliver inspiring outdoor workshops in your school grounds. With great links to the Curriculum for Excellence and Eco-Schools – what are you waiting for?

Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills Mr John Swinney MSP will be leading a Glow TV broadcast on Monday the 29th August at 12.45pm.
