The role of food in addressing wellbeing, learning and the attainment gap

Thursday 1 June, Glasgow

Food, including food poverty and food security, is a major social issue. Join us at this one day conference to discuss the role of food in our society, and its links with wellbeing, learning and attainment within the context of GIRFEC.

One year on from our 2016 conference focusing on food policy, delegates can expect to hear updates on food laws and policy initiatives, and find out about creative approaches, up-to-date research and current projects aimed at tackling food insecurity and improving the nutrition and wellbeing of children and young people. 

Conference topics include:
–     The link between food and attainment in children
–     Recipe for Success? An update on policy
–     Tackling food poverty through a multi-agency approach
–     The role of food in promoting social inclusion, social interaction and positive behaviours
–     Establishing healthy attitudes to food from an early age
–     Adopting a child rights approach to food.

Keynote speaker:

Professor Greta Defeyter, Director of Healthy Living at the University of Northumbria, speaking about the evidence behind ‘holiday hunger’ and ‘holiday loss of learning’, and successful intervention to tackle these phenomena.
