Week beginning 3rd December 2018

This week we have the Open Afternoon on Wednesday from 1.30-3.00pm. You are welcome to come into the classroom and help your child do some Christmas crafts.

We will be busy this week making chocolate fudge to sell at the School Christmas Fair on Saturday 8th December.

Letter Sounds

This week we are revising our last six letter sounds g, o, u, l, f, b. For homework use the letters in the envelope at the front of the pink book to make simple 2/3 letter words such as log or bug. Please write the words you make on the sheet in the pink book for Friday.

Common Words

The children now have the second word wall in their white books which can be used at home for revision. Words for this week are if and of. Please complete the common word homework for Thursday. You may need to help your child to write the number after counting the words together. They can now also try to write the words.

Reading

The children will get 2 new books this week on Monday and Thursday. We will be starting a new set of books on Thursday – Big Cat Collins. These books have lots of repetition in the stories so your child may remember the words from the previous page.   Encourage them to look at the words or point to them as you read.

Topic

We will continue with our rehearsals this week in the hall and on the stage. I decided to give the children home a copy of our song words so you can use them at home as well as the video links if you want.  They are doing really well with the songs. The children have all now tried on their costumes and have their positions for our performance.

 

Week beginning 26th November 2018

Hope you are all enjoying your Bookbug Bags at home. The winning book in the the Bookbug Picture Book Prize in P1C was I Am Bat with 10 votes, One Button Benny go 6 votes and Eric Makes A Splash got 4 votes.

Our Kincorth Library visit last week had to be cancelled again due to the bad weather. Hopefully we will manage to get a visit booked for another time this term.

As part of our Big Maths we do CLIC sessions in the class which at this stage of Primary 1 only involve C – counting and L – learn its.

The children have listened to the Christmas Story and have started learning our songs for the Christmas Concert. We will continue with our rehearsals this week in the hall and on the stage. Week beginning 19th November 2018

This week the children will get home their Bookbug bags containing the 3 books nominated for the Scottish Book Awards. The bags also contain other goodies which can be shared as a family at home.  We will be voting for our favourite book in school.

Hopefully this week we will be walking up to Kincorth library on Wednesday morning after break. Last week’s visit had to be cancelled due to the bad weather.

This term our topic is called Showtime. This involves rehearsing for our Christmas concerts both in the class and with the other infant classes. We have six songs to learn. The children will get a copy of the words to take home.

This week we are continuing with our 2D shape – circle, square, rectangle and triangle, drawing, recognising, making patterns and looking at their properties.

As part of our Big Maths we do CLIC sessions in the class which at this stage of Primary 1 only involve C – counting and L – learn its.

Our learn its for this term are 1 + 1 = 2 and 2 + 2 =4.

These are facts which the children have to learn and remember. The first ones we do are the doubles so the fingers on each hand can be used to demonstrate the fact.

We will be revising these learn its a lot throughout the rest of this term so we are ready to move on to the next ones in the new year.

This week on Tuesday the children are having their photo taken for First Class in the newspaper.
