Week beginning 19th November 2018

This week the children will get home their Bookbug bags containing the 3 books nominated for the Scottish Book Awards. The bags also contain other goodies which can be shared as a family at home.  We will be voting for our favourite book in school.

Hopefully this week we will be walking up to Kincorth library on Wednesday morning after break. Last week’s visit had to be cancelled due to the bad weather.

Letter Sounds

This week our letter sounds are u and l. Letter u homework should be completed for Wednesday and letter l homework should be completed by Friday.

Common Words

Please continue to revise the first 12 common words on the word wall in the white book. Words for this week are go and no. Please complete the common word homework for Thursday. You may need to help your child to write the number after counting the words together. They can now also try to write the words.

Reading

The children will get 2 new books this week on Monday and Thursday. They will have heard the extended story in school so may be able to tell you more about what is happening in the pictures. Encourage your child to look at the words or point to them as you read.

We are now on a new set of reading books and words will be added related to each book.

Maths

This week we will be investigating 3D shapes – cube, cone, sphere, cylinder, colouring, recognising, sorting and looking at their properties.

 

As part of our Big Maths we do CLIC sessions in the class which at this stage of Primary 1 only involve C – counting and L – learn its.

Counting – counting to 10 and 20 forwards and backwards

Learn its –  1 + 1 = 2 and 2 + 2 =4.

Topic

This term our topic is called Showtime. This involves rehearsing for our Christmas concerts both in the class and with the other infant classes. We have six songs to learn. The children will get a copy of the words to take home.
