Higher Mathematics

What will I learn?

The aim of the Higher Maths course is to deepen learners’ knowledge and skills in mathematical techniques and language.  This course provides learners with an in-depth study of mathematical concepts, both practical and abstract.  Learners will gain the skills required to interpret, manage and communicate mathematical information accurately.  Higher Maths provides learners with a strong skillset useful for further study or employment, particularly in STEM related areas.

What do I require to select this course?

Candidates should have achieved the National 5 Mathematics (NOT Applications of Maths) course.

How will I be assessed?

Higher Maths has 3 units which are Assessed as a Whole Course Assessment.

The units are:

  • Expressions and Formulae
  • Relationships and Calculus
  • Applications

The Course Assessment is an externally assessed exam consisting of 2 papers:

  • Non-calculator (1 hr 30 mins)
  • Calculator (1 hr 45 mins)

To gain a course award, learners must pass the Course Assessment.

Achievement of this course gives automatic certification of the following Core Skill:-

Numeracy at SCQF level 6
