‘Carols By Candlelight’

On Monday 17th December, the Round Church in Bowmore was lit up with flickering candles in preparation for Bowmore Primary’s ‘Carols By Candlelight’ service. This was very ably led by P.4/5. It was a very special time for the children and our community. Each class stood and sang either a Christmas carol or song to a packed church whilst P4/5 told us the Christmas Story. Special angels designed by the children, decorated the church. The simplicity of the service reminded us of the meaning of Christmas. By the time the P 4/5 service ended, everyone left the church with a lovely warm Christmas feeling. Merry Christmas everyone.

Bowmore Christmas Fayre!

All Bowmore Primary children have been busy with their arts and crafts this term in preparation for their grand Christmas Fayre! There were a variety of crafts on sale: from super sparkly twig stars to lovely Christmas Stockings, from carefully decorated hand sewn tree decorations to excellent ECO photo frames (recycled cardboard and shells were used). Handmade Christmas trees and bunting also looked stunning. Continue reading Bowmore Christmas Fayre!

‘Snow White’ sparkles at Bowmore

Bowmore Primary held one of their finest pantomimes to date this December! The familiar story of ‘Snow White’ was retold in a sparkling version of song and dance.
Every class took part and performed a well-rehearsed and very professional routine. Our P.7s took on board the principal roles, from a very handsome Prince Justin of Bieberville to our outrageous dame, Sarah Sausage. Snow White walked on straight from a Walt Disney film as did the very wicked Queen – boo! Continue reading ‘Snow White’ sparkles at Bowmore

We Are Vikings

As part of Bowmore Primary’s P4/5 Viking project they were given a very interesting homework task –to make their own Viking costumes to wear at their very own Viking feast.  All worked hard to create the costumes, using items found in their homes, and on Tuesday 6th November brought their masterpieces into school.  The morning was spent preparing the food, including making their own butter, and in the afternoon P4/5 put on their fabulous costumes to enjoy the feast.  The food was delicious and all costumes looked absolutely fantastic!

Keith Brumpton Visits Bowmore Primary School

Eventually, after much anticipation, Keith Brumpton, the amazing, famous author, appeared in our school on Friday 7th September 2012!  Although he came to our school, he originally came over for The Islay Book Festival.  For some odd reason Keith Brumpton came early but Joan Lennon and Linda Strachan (two other fantastic authors) were stranded on the mainland due to the unpredictable mist!

Firstly he told us that he writes scripts for brilliant television shows like 64 Zoo Lane, Balamory and MIHigh but after that he drew scenes from his interesting books.  The pictures were amazing (I especially liked the picture of Dino FC). Then he told us his new ideas for books such as Space Bunnies and Meet the Robotsons (I definitely want to buy them!)

Jubilee Jubilations at Bowmore Primary

Despite being a wee bit late, on Wednesday 13th June, ourwonderful catering staff cooked, baked and created a magnificent buffet – fit for the Queen herself!

As soon as we had sung ‘God Save the Queen’, the children and staff tucked into the most delicious food – smashing sausage rolls, vol-au-vents, coronation chicken, sausages, chicken wings, super sandwiches, scrummy salads and much more.  Tables groaned under the weight of the food!

Bowmore Primary Mini-Olympics 2012!

The sun split the sky on the morning of the 18th June and the sports pitch burst into life! All classes were piped in by Nigel Morris. Class banners were held high, flags were waved wildly – the Olympic parade had begun! The opening ceremony was a blaze of colour and diversity! After a whole school song (instigated by Rachael Morrison), P4/5 started with an emotional relay race with their Olympic torches to ‘Chariots of Fire’. The crowd were then treated to a P.1/2 swirling ribbon dance and the P3/4 Olympic Rings dance. Continue reading Bowmore Primary Mini-Olympics 2012!

Green Day for Bowmore Primary!

On the 13th June, Paula Love came to visit our school in Bowmore. If our school was free from litter and we were an ECO-friendly place, she would award us our 3rd fantastic Green Flag.
We had to show her around the school and our playground. Our nursery proudly showed Mrs Love their wonderful wormery and the P1/2 class took her on a lovely litter-pick. She also visited their glorious garden which would attract beautiful butterflies and interesting insects! Continue reading Green Day for Bowmore Primary!
