Here is Barcaldine Primary School showing off their new Fourth Green Flag.

The children were commended for the steady progress that they had made since their last award in 2011 and also for having so many sound ideas for the future. Families, local community, local business and environmental organisations were involved in this journey. The children were particularly commended for the progress that they made with their transport topic via events such as the Big Pedal and the assessors were delighted to hear of the wonderful use the children were making of their local cycle path. Fun in Fundraising at Barcaldine!

Barcaldine Primary School has been enjoying the opportunity to raise funds for two different charities as well as incorporating our cycling activities towards our Big Pedal competition.

Today we all dressed in yellow to raise money for Cancer Research. The money that we are donating will help the Marie Curie Nurses provide more free care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes. Continue reading Fun in Fundraising at Barcaldine!

Barcaldine and Beavers!

Barcaldine Primary School was delighted to have Olwen Hemmings visit us from Knapdale this week.

We had a very interesting day, learning all about beavers. We got a chance to feel their fur, see a skull, have life-size images of beavers, learn about their diet and we even tried to be beavers and build our own dam!! We had an absolutely wonderful morning and thank Olly so much for coming to see us.

Barcaldine Primary Christmas Party

Barcaldine Primary School had their Christmas Party on Thursday 21st December. We all got dressed up into our sparkly and smart clothes – even the teachers were dressed to impress!  We had an awesome buffet to start with and then we moved onto lots of party games.  We had lots and lots of fun and we were joined by some Pre-5 children from our village.  We were so good this year that even Santa managed to fit us in his busy schedule.

Primary Schools Join Forces for Annual Nativity

Barcaldine and Ardchattan Primary schools joined forces this year for their annual nativity performances in St Modans Church, Benderloch!  The nativity was called ‘It takes a Village’ which we thought was rather appropriately named.  Our Primary 7 pupils chose their own parts and then helped in the process of picking all the other characters.  Every child had a significant role to play and there was plenty of hilarity – the nativity was all in rhyme and there was joyful singing.

The silver collection at the door raised just over £50 and the children selected ‘Help for Heroes’ as their chosen charity this year.

Barcaldine Entertaining!!

Barcaldine Primary School Children went along to St Modans Church on Wednesday afternoon to entertain the Benderloch Senior Citizens Club. The children sang a range of songs as well as a child doing a solo song from Les Miserables. Singing was not the only order of the day as some of our children played their instruments – a fiddlist as well as a trumpeter with only a few months instruction. WOW!! Primary Schools join forces for Children in Need

Barcaldine and Ardchattan Primary Schools joined forces last Thursday to raise funds for Children in Need 2012.  All the children (and teachers) arrived at school in their pyjamas.  In the afternoon lots of fun and games entertained all.  The children raised £43 and Eilidh, a Barcaldine Primary pupil, raised £50 by doing a sponsored silence – which proved to be rather difficult when practising her part in the nativity play!

Polar Lands

As part of their topic work on Polar Lands, children from Barcaldine Primary were lucky enough to enjoy a workshop with Dr Tim Boyd of SAMs.  The experiment involved them decorating polystyrene cups which Dr Boyd then took with him to the North Atlantic.  These cups were lowered to 1000 metres depth along with exploratory equipment and then retrieved at the end of the trip.  As you can see the change was amazing.  The cups shrank but remained perfect in every detail. Halloween Fun at Barcaldine Primary

Primary 7 pupils organised an afternoon of fun to celebrate Halloween at Barcaldine Primary.  All the children (and teachers!!) were asked to come dressed up as an animal – we had everything from starlings and swans to dogs and dinosaurs to name but a few!  The fun started with ducking for apples and pinning the rabbit’s tail with everyone getting sticky from trying to eat doughnuts that had been strung up without using their hands and marshmallows with squidgy cream.  Everyone had to eat a slug – thankfully it turned out to be an orange segment covered in chocolate – PHEW! Fun was the ingredient of the day and thank you to our P7 pupils for arranging such a great day.
