FORGET TWILIGHT… THIS IS ‘WEREWOLVES VERSUS VAMPIRES’ RETRO STYLE!

Dunoon Grammar School pupils hijack local cinema as part of inaugural Dunoon Film Festival. Visitors to the Studio 1 cinema, Dunoon on Friday, 14 June 2013 are in for a frighteningly good time! As part of the inaugural Dunoon Film Festival, pupils have organised a special DFF Takeover which will involve a double bill screening of two iconic 80s cult movies.
Working with Festival producer Matt Lloyd and Edinburgh based cult film specialist Matt Palmer, the pupils from Dunoon Grammar’s S3 Administration & IT class have carried out a range of activities to prepare for the evening. Pupils have liaised with the cinema, negotiated with film distributors, filmed and produced a series of event adverts, designed an event logoand advertising flyer, and harnessed social media for communication purposes. First up on the night is the fantastic, teen fantasy comedy Teen Wolf starring 80s movie legend Michael J Fox. This is then followed by the definitive 80s cult classic– The Lost Boys, starring 80s heart-throbs Jason Patric and Kiefer Sutherland.
In keeping with the 80s horror theme, audience members are invited to come along dressed as their favourite 80s horror character – so dig out those fangs, hockey masks and leg warmers! Prizes will be awarded on the night for the best dressed! The evening promises to be a fantastic experience, with plenty of prizes and surprises added to the rare opportunity to view two all-time great movies on the big screen. S3 Administration & IT pupil and host for the DFF takeover Ben Doherty stated: “It’s been tremendous fun and a privilege to take part in such a high profile event. Well done to everyone who has been involved in the planning and the organisation of our double bill.”
Dunoon Film Festival Curator Matt Lloyd commented: “Dunoon Film Festival is thrilled and terrified in equal measure that Dunoon Grammar School pupils have wrestled the Studio Cinema from our control! We tremble in fear at the speed, efficiency and passion with which they are executing their mission to flood the festival with blood-curdling cult movies! Viva la double-bill revolution!”
Mr Shaw, Head Teacher of Dunoon Grammar School added: “I would like to thank everyone involved at the Dunoon Film Festival for giving our young people the opportunity to make a contribution to this fantastic weekend of events. I would particularly like to thank Matt Lloyd and Matt Palmer who have worked closely with the young people to develop ideas into action. Finally, I would like to thank our pupils, who have again organised an event of the highest standard and one which I am sure will be a fantastic success.”
