On Monday February 19th Furnace Primary school began a brand new Family Story Club in parnership with the wider community. Volunteers came in to experience and share their story reading skills on a one to one basis with pupils from Minard and Furnace Primary schools.
Each adult and child found a quiet place to read to each other. New friendships were definitely forged as well as an opportunity for the pupil to benefit from paired reading. After reading together, and exchanging reward stickers, Jan served pizza whilst everyone listened to Mrs Baird reading from the Viking’s Apprentice by Kevin McLeod.
As we continue with our club sessions we hope to include an author visit, book related quizzes and crafts and possibly even a lending library. The story club takes place every second Monday and children (and adults) of all ages are invited to attend. Bookbug sessions are on hand for the younger pre school children.
