Tobacco Education in P7

Primary 7 have enjoyed participating in Tobacco Education. We have learnt lots of interesting facts and statistics. We particularly enjoyed the ‘Smoking Machine’ which showed us the impact that 1 cigarette has on your lungs! Do you know that there are over 4000 chemicals in one cigarette? We have all asked our parents to make a pledge to have a smoke-free home and car as second hand smoking is extremely dangerous!

P5/6 Art After School Club

The Thursday art after school club have enjoyed looking at the work of Chuck Close. He uses his hands to create large paintings! We used only our fingers and cotton buds to create the portrait with the black paint, then used vibrant oil pastels for the background. We loved the results and also learned how to draw a face using the correct proportions! So, it just goes to show that you dont’ always need to think ‘paintbrush’ when you get the paints out!

P7 Art

Primary 7 have been exploring the artist Hokusai and looking at his work ‘The Great Wave’ with Miss Notman. We were interested to look at the techniques he used to create dramatic waves and explored these in our own Hokusai inspired waves! We used a pencil to explore line and create the composition, then we we were left to be as expressive and dramatic as we could with the paint! We used contrasting colours to add defintion and drama! The results were wonderful and we have become even more confident with painting and taking risks to explore colour and paint techniques!

Primary 5 Art

Mr Mackie’s class have been working hard during their art time with Miss Notman. They have been learning how to draw with 3D perspective and learning all about the ‘vanishing point’! They have created wonderful abstract artwork combined with their knowledge of perspective drawing! Well done P5!

JRSO News

The Junior Road Safety Officers, Leya Crawford, Jamie Meldrum and Alix Crawford have had a busy few weeks. They attended their first ever Induction Day at Broxburn Primary School where they got lots of advice on how to be a successful JRSO and some practical tips on organising the JRSO  noticeboard in school. They have also had the difficult task of judging the many entries to the Road Safety Week competition. This year the focus was Look Out For Each Other. The standard of work is extremely high and winners and runners up will be announced soon.

P6 visit Hopetoun House

We have been enjoying exploring our Victorians topic and we visited Hopetoun House last week. We thought it would be a nice, relaxing day for us, learning all about life as a servant in the Victorian days…how wrong we were! We were immediately dressed as servants, some of those being the scullery maid (a terribly hard job!), nursemaid, boot-boy (and many more) and put straight to work! In fact, we arrived at Hopetoun House at 9.45…they expected us at 6am! Some of the boys had the pleasure of becoming the ‘butler’ for the day…what a nice job that must have been! Hopetoun House has really put into context what we have been learning and it gave us a real insight to what life would have been like back then. Life as a servant meant long hours, extremely hard work and no days off! We had a fantastic time, the Housekeepers Mrs Ward, Mrs Stewart and Mrs Carmichael kept us working hard all day, however, they were actually quite kind to us! A big thank you to Hopetoun House and the ladies for a wonderfully engaging day!
