Mr Minute helps Primary 3/2, Primary 2/1 and Primary 2 learn all about Time

This week Mr Minute needed our help again in his factory. To fix his clocks we had to learn how to tell the time. We have played lots of fun time games, made paper plate clocks and showed our teacher how good we are at time by using mini clocks.

Can you show your family all the different times you know?

We are really excited about a family member coming into school next Tuesday (P.3/2 and P.2) or Thursday (P.2/1) to help us make a 3D creative clock. Everyone has designed their clock at home so please remember to bring in everything you need to make the clock next week.

Book Week Scotland 2015

We celebrated Book Week Scotland last week. The Library After-School Club organised lots of exciting activities for the whole school.

The three books shortlisted books for the Scottish Children’s Book Awards were read over the tannoy by Mrs Hollands, Mr Taylor and Mrs McKenzie. They did an amazing job! We voted for our favourite and the winner will be announced shortly.

Teachers swapped classes and read from their favourite books and we took part in paired reading where the upper classes read to the infant classes. Members of the Library After-School Club ran a “Cover Book Quiz”. They read the opening paragraph from a selection of books and we had to identify the book, it was quite tricky!

To launch the new comic book section of the library we asked pupils to design and create a page of a comic. The After-School Club now have the unenviable task of choosing the winners!

Weekly sensory spelling activities

Information for parents

  1. Each week choose at least 1 activity (you may do more if you wish) to complete.
  2. On completion in child’s spelling jotter note the name of the activity/activities that you completed with your child.
  3. If you wish to make a comment either about how well your child completed this activity or if they enjoyed this activity please also add this.
  4. If you wish you can paste in or attach examples if possible * many of these activities you will not be able to do this as they are a bit impractical to record or just messy!
  5. If you wish you can take a photograph of this activity and paste into your child’s spelling jotter.
  6. Spelling homework is issued on Monday and we ask that you please return on Friday.

Remember it is the experience of learning for your children that is important and not the recording of it. However always delighted to see any examples and photographs 🙂

Thank you P2/1, P2 and P3/2 teachers

Primary 3/2, 2 and 2/1 are learning about Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!

Mr Minute is looking for workers in his factory so we found out what jobs would be needed to run a factory. After that we decided which job we would like to do and filled out a job application. Fingers crossed!

We helped Mr Minute design his factory floor plan so he will know where everything will go. In Writing we all wrote a letter to Mr Minute telling him that we would love to help him with his factory.

Surprise, Surprise for Primary 3/2, 2, and 2/1

Mr Minute's Letter

Primary 3/2, 2 and 2/1 were all surprised to come back after lunch one day to find a special letter from Mr Minute. He needs us to help him open a clock factory. We had a think about what we would need to learn to help him. Over the next few weeks we will learn all about job roles, time and shape.

In Maths Primary 2 and 3 are learning all about fractions. We have had great fun folding and cutting shapes. I wonder how many fractions we can spot when we are out and about.

Great fun was had by all at our Children in Need assembly. We enjoyed dressing up in our pyjamas, taking part in competitions and dancing at the dance-a-thon.

Congratulations to all the budding dancers.

Primary 3 News

We are still very busy in Primary 3 and learning lots of exciting new things!

In topic, we have started working in pairs to design our own island.  We started by listing everything we would have on an island and then learned about Map Keys and made a Key for all the island features we had chosen.  Today we drew the coastal outline of our island and we will soon be ready to add all of our Map Key symbols.  We have also written and sent letters to Katie Morag and are anxiously awaiting replies.

We are doing a super job in PE at the moment and can now dance a Canadian Barn Dance to music.  We have even learned to make the dance progressive which means the boys move on to a new partner!  We have also learned the beginning of the Gay Gordons, which is quite tricky.  We will soon be ready to try that to music as well.

We are coming home today with letters to invite our family to come to school and see all that we have been doing in Topic.  We are planning to put on a fantastic showcase and are excited to share our learning on Thursday 3rd December.

In topic maths, we are soon finishing our data handling topic and enjoyed learning about Carroll and Tree Diagrams recently.  We will soon be moving onto learning about Grid References, which ties in nicely with our Katie Morag island activities.

We have signed up to take part in the West Lothian Sumdog challenge which begins tomorrow.  We can play Sumdog at home as normal but are competing against classes in other West Lothian schools.  The more we play Sumdog at home over the next week, the better chance we have of doing well in the challenge.

Look out for more updates soon!
