P4a Judo Session

In P4a, we really enjoyed our Judo taster session earlier this week. We wore cool jackets and all activities took place on special mats. We learned some Judo “moves” and how to be safe when doing these. Our instructor reminded us that we should only do these when at a Judo class though. We had lots of fun doing the activities with our partner!

Judo in Primary 3

We had fabulous fun in Primary 3 on Monday morning when we went to a Judo session in the big hall with Marvellous Marv.  Marv played some super games with us where we began to learn some of the basics in Judo, such as trying to roll our partner off their knees and trying to stop our partner rolling us over!

Marv told us that Judo is only to be done in classes where it is safe and will soon be bringing invitations to school to tell us all about classes in Livingston.

Pupils Promote New Play Park

Representing Williamston Primary School; Myles, Shirees, Lewis and Halle were out at the latest new park at Bankton Mains today for its official opening. This park was designed in consultation with the pupils here at Williamston Primary School. The park makes use of new ‘Smart Playground’ technology using QR codes to engage children and parents with educational content.

Why not visit the park and see it for yourself. Please tell us what you like about it.

Judo in Primary 2 and Primary 2/1.

The boys and girls in Primary 2 and Primary 2/1 were very lucky to have the opportunity to participate in a judo taster session this morning.  Magic Marv (the instructor) showed and taught the boys and girls some basic moves required in the art of judo.  They were able to use their skills they had learned in other areas of PE; using their eyes to move around the mat safely and fast feet!  They had lots of fun and were very keen to find out about the judo club.

This week, letters will be issued inviting the boys and girls to attend this fun club.

Food technology is Fun in Primary 4

In Primary 4 we have been developing our food technology skills over the last few weeks. First we developed skills in measuring and mixing to make shortbread for the Burns party. It was delicious! Then we learned how to prepare a cheese (with optional tomato!) sandwich. This helped us to practise our spreading, cutting and grating skills. Yummy! We have also been learning how to keep safe and hygienic when preparing food and also about healthy eating. What a lot of foodie fun!

Williamston Breakfast Club – Shake Up Your Wake Up!

Breakfast Shake up your Wake up pic

All this week the children coming along to our Breakfast Club were trying new things as part of the Breakfast Week ‘Shake Up Your Wake Up’. Breakfast included fruit juices, pain au chocolat, croissants, ham and cheese, fresh pancakes, homemade fritatta, a selection of bagels, eggy bread, cereal, fruits and yogurts. Staff and Parents were also encouraged to come along and join in.

Help Grow Your Brain.

Breakfast replenishes glucose levels, an essential carbohydrate that is needed for the brain to work properly.  Studies have shown that eating breakfast can improve concentration and recall and it can also change our mood, lowering stress levels and making us happier.  It has even been linked to improvement in attainment and behaviour.  For the brain to work at its best it needs energy, so start your day with a good breakfast. Shake up your wake up!

We hope to Shake Up Your Wake Up!

Share Aware – NSPCC Campaign

On 9th January 2015 the NSPCC launched its Share Aware campaign to encourage parents/carers of children from 8-12 years to have conversations with their children about safety online. Having conversations from a young age can help build trust and openness and get preventative messages across. However, many parents feel confused by the internet and out of their depth in understanding what their children are doing online and what the risks might be. The Share Aware campaign aims to give parents the tools to feel confident to have these conversations. Please take a look at the Share Aware site. A link has been added to “Links for Parents”.
