This week in Primary 5

It has been a very busy, sunny week in P5!

We’ve nearly finished our Time topic in numeracy and the children have all done really well completing this.

In grammar, this week we were focussing on Time Connectives to help us with our writing topic of Exposition. We practiced these by completing an activity on our desks in small groups.

We were using different active methods to practice our spelling word this week and had the choice of scrabble tiles, foam letters or partner testing!

We ended our week with Sharing Our Learning focussing on Friendship, Trust and Communication. Thank you so much for all who participated, it was a great morning and the class loved it.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend in the sunshine!

P7 Camping Update Wednesday 31st May

Wow- another stunning day in sunny Broomlee. Sleepy heads at 7:30 this morning but breakfast of cereal, croissants (chocolate ones too) and toast helped set us up for the day. Catwalk for one of the groups and Raft Building were 2 of many highlights of the day. A big shout out to Sam and Shannon who were voted ‘Best Leaders’ during Nightline activity by their team along with Miss Lindsay who climbed to the top (yes the TOP) of the Catwalk. Again lots of smiles, hard work and success for all. At this time, we are completing camp quiz activities. Well done to each and every one of our amazing Campers.

Tay Class Update

Last week was another busy week in Tay Class.  Here are a some photos of what we’ve been doing…

All of us really enjoyed playing the glockenspiels:

We have listening to the story and  songs about ‘What the Ladybird Heard’.  We played a game on the Phonics Bloom website where we matched the sound to the correct animal. Below ‘A’ and ‘H’ are matching the pictures of baby animals to the pictures of the adult animal.

‘B’ and ‘L’ have really enjoyed playing the keyboard.  They have been learning to wait and take turns.

‘Choose Time’…

‘A’ enjoyed modelling with the plasticine. ‘H’ build a super model with the Duplo and ‘A’ enjoyed playing with a new dinosaur that Miss M. kindly brought in for us.

Trim Trail fun…

exploring, balancing, climbing and running!

‘A’ and ‘A’ learning to share resources

Happy Campers in Sunny Broomlee

What a fabulous start to our P7 Camp. After an uneventful bus journey, we were straight to activity. Both groups enjoyed testing their teamwork  in Low Ropes, tackling fear of heights in Catwalk (amongst the birds in the trees) and their strategic thinking during Crate Climb. Lots of fun and excitement amongst all pupils, with a bucket load of pride as everyone was successful. After a hearty dinner we are now playing Highland Games in the beautiful evening sunshine. Happy Campers!

Tay Class Health Week Fun

Last week was ‘Health Week’ in school.   The Health Committee worked hard to organise lots of activities so thank you very much to them for this.

Tay Class enjoyed songs and games about healthy food.  We absolutely loved the ‘Smoothie Bike’.  ‘H’ helped chop up some fruit and then most children took turns to add in the fruit and the juice.  Most of us took turn to pedal the bike to make the blender work.  The final result was some delicious healthy smoothie which some of us tried.  ‘A’ really enjoyed his and drank it all.  Great team effort Tay Class!

Tay Class had a very different PE time:  there were sensory stations set up in the hall.  Many of us loved the bubbles and the tent with lights and music.  There was a sensory path to walk over and a foot spa full of orbeez- which ‘L’ especially enjoyed.  We also cleaned the ‘germs’ off the hands and explored the touch and feel tray.

We really enjoyed using the bubble machines in class too.

Health Week in Primary 5

Well, what a busy week we’ve all had and it has been fantastic! A Big thank you to all the organisations that have participated and our Health & Wellbeing team for organising such a great, fun filled week 🙂

Our week started with Handball, Judo and a visit to Polbeth Bowling Club.  The sunshine was lovely and the walk from school to the bowling club was a lovely rest in between activities.

We then started our afternoon on the Smoothie Bike; we worked in groups, prepped our fruit and had to cycle to blend all the ingredients together. It was then time to watch the P6/P7’s vs The Teachers at Netball.

Wednesday morning started with PE with Mrs McMaster before going out to the back playground to plant trees. The team work P5 showed when completing this activity was amazing! Then we had sports with Mr Boles and he introduced us to two new games that we’re going to keep playing – Jedi Dodgeball and Pirate Ships!

Since Sports Day has been postponed due to the weather we spent out rainy Wednesday afternoon designing and creating Shrek props for the summer show.

Thursday was another very busy day with a Vital team workout, Martial Arts and SMK Dance. It was a very tiring morning!

And our Thursday finished with a lovely class talk with Nicole Lind, who plays football for Linlithgow Rose. The children were very respectful, asked great questions and showed so much interest in what she was telling everyone. Some children even got to try on her kits and play with her ‘red and yellow’ cards.

Today was our last day of Health Week so we started it off with healthy fruit kebabs for our breakfast! We had mango, pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, melon, watermelon, plums and kiwis. Everyone was challenged to try a new fruit they hadn’t had before and so many of the children tried – big well done!

We then finished off our morning with some First Aid training.

What a great week and massive well done to all of the children trying new activities!! You have all done so well and deserve a lovely, chilled weekend!

See you all on Monday!

The first week of May in P5

It was short but very busy week in P5 this week!

We all caught up after our long weekend, sharing tells of the adventures we had been on and listening to each others stories.

We continued with our reading, spelling and numeracy work. We also started a science experiment with lemon seeds to see if we can make them grow.

With this week being the first week of May, we also learned about Our Lady, Mary and ways we can celebrate her throughout the month. Primary 5 will be conducting the school Mass on Thursday 18th of May and have already been practicing in preparation for it.

The most exciting part of our week was going swimming at Excite in Whitburn. The children were in the water for 45 minutes and had lots of fun being either sharks or dolphins! They all did very well, put in lots of effort and were very encouraging towards one another.

I hope everyone enjoys their Bank Holiday this weekend and I’ll see you all on Tuesday morning!

Last week in Tay Class

Last week was another busy week in Tay Class.

Below are some moments we caught on camera.

Sensory room fun!   Some children used the mats to  make a den.

Playing games or watching videos on the iPads:

We used the Boomwhackers to play along with the music.

We haven’t used the wooden blocks for a while so ‘A’ and ‘H’ enjoyed  building with these.

‘A’ enjoyed playing with the play dough too.

Outdoor play at the Trim Trail:

Walking on the wavy path.  Great balance and turn-taking!

Term 4 so far in P5!

It has been very busy in P5 since we returned from our Easter break!

We had our school trip to Sky Academy which was very exciting. Everyone got to take part in creating movie trailers and hopefully you’ve had a chance to watch them on the QR code sent home! li

We have continued with our maths topic ‘time’ and are starting to get to grips with the analogue clock. We are moving onto the digital clock next week.

In writing, we have started our new topic – Persuasive Writing – and we had a class debate this week about Earth Day and what can be done to help our planet.

We have lots coming up this term starting off with Shrek the Musical – we have some lead roles in our class so look for them when you come along to the performance in June! We have started designing back drops and props so our class looks a little bit like an Art Attack studio!

Also, next week on Thursday morning we are all off to Excite Whitburn for some swimming 10:30am – 12pm.

Have a great long weekend everyone! See you all on Wednesday 🙂
