A short week round up for Primary 7

It has been a quick week in Primary 7.  We would like to start by thanking everyone who attended ‘Rock for Camp’ last week.  We raised over £900.  Thank you to the parent council members who supported us with this, your help and advice was really appreciated.  We hope everyone had as much fun as we did.  Well done to the winners of the games and raffles.

We have also welcomed some very hungry visitors this week.  We have been learning about life cycles.  we have planted seeds and are now looking at the life cycles of animals.  Our caterpillars will be with us for a few weeks as we study different stages of their

development.

Another shorter week next week.  We hope you enjoy the holiday weekend.

Tomorrow is Rock for Camp!

Rock for Camp is nearly here.  Thank you to everyone who has bought tickets so far.  We will be selling tickets in school tomorrow morning or on the door tomorrow night (£3 for Adults £2 for children).

We have some excellent raffle prizes including an overnight Glamping experience for 2.  There will a chance to play ‘Slide the Coin at the Bottle’ and other games to be played.

The Band ‘Full Circle’ will be performing between 7-9pm.  We hope to see you all tomorrow night.

Things are Growing in P7

This week we have been looking at the life cycle of plants and how a plant produces seeds.   We have been planting seeds of our own.  The ones that we planted out in the school garden before Easter have become dinner for little visitors to the garden, so undeterred, we are starting again.

We have planted cress indoors and letuce, radishes carrots and spring onions outdoors.  We have also been looking at how the plants produce seeds.  We have disected and pressed some flowers and examined each of the parts to learn how seeds are produced.

Rock for Camp

As part of their final term enterprise in collaboration with the Parent Council P7 would like to invite everyone from across the school and nursery to a live music event on Friday 28th April.  The doors will open at 6.30pm where there will be music, a raffle and slide coin at the bottle games for adults and children.  There will be some soft drinks and snack available to buy on the night but adults may BYOB.

The band Full Circlewill be performing at the school between 7-9pm.  Christopher Ferguson, our chair of the Parent oCuncil, has been a member of this covers and events band for many years and they have kindly donated their time to raise money for the Primary 7 school camp.  The parent council, for many years now,  have been raising money to ensure that every child who wants to go to camp can get this experience.

The Primary 7 children will be selling the tickets in school.  Numbers are limited so make sure you get your tickets now!

Cake and Candy

Primary 7 have been helping to organise and support some of our Lenten charity events this week.  We were serving at the cake and candy.  We made over £240!  Thank you for the generous donations and to all those who came to buy cakes.

Next week we are organising a ‘No Pencil Day’ in our class.  We have organised lots of learning activities but we will not be using pencils for the whole day.

Our Friends in Ghana

This year Primary 7 have been taking part in a project called Friends for Wildlife.  We have been writing to children from Akwidaa in Ghana.  We have been telling them about our local wildlife and they have been sharing information about animals near where they live.  As part of the project we have set up motion capture cameras in the local area and have capture lots of pictures of deer, and there is one of a fox and some squirrels.  some of them are tricky to see can you spot all of the animals in the selection below?  You can click on the pictures below to zoom in.

We have been sharing letter with the children about life in the places where we live and the children have found it interesting to find out about the food, games and customs in Ghana.

We have been sent more letters and some posters of endangered animals where they live and have sent them posters of Basking sharks, otters, smooth newt and pine martins.  We will let you know what they have sent us posters on soon.

Primary 7 – 23.1.23

Primary 7 have been celebrating Burns Night with some Irn Bru and a wee bit of shortbread .  We have been learning our Burns poems and are preparing to perform them in front of the class next week.   The children were using the reading skills of clarifying and inference to try to work out what some of the words meant in the Burns poem ‘My Hoggie’.

In our World War 2 Home Front topic we have been

learning about ‘Make Do and Mend’  We have been knitting little dish cloths with some wool.  We are continuing to make little models of Anderson shelters,  We were very pleased with our war time carrot biscuits. We followed the instructions we wrote to make them.   They tasted much better that we thought and we couldn’t really taste the carrot.

We went down to P1 to support the work that they were doing in science.  We made push and pull vehicles as part on their learning about Forces.

Primary 7 – A New Year!

Happy New Year!  We hope you all hade a great time over the festive period. We have had a busy first week back in P7.  This week we have been continuing to learn about the World War 2 home front effort.  At the end of last term we made little boxes that gas masks would be carried in.  This week we have been looking at what would happen during an airraid.  We are planning out models that we will be making of Anderson shelters.  We hope to get these started next week and use our knowledge of decimals and measuring to create scale models.

We have been also writing proceedurals during our writing time and have created recipes for war time carrot biscuits.  We hope to be making these biscuits next week.  We’ll let you know how they go.
