Rannoch News

This week we have moved no in our Literacy studies to focus on the initial sounds…we have enjoyed forming this letter in foam and practicing our find motor skills in writing it with our pencils – also practicing our ‘pinch’ grip.

In our ‘Beyond Number’ studies we have also moved on in our learning…from 2D shapes to 3D shapes…In our learning we have looked at recognising which 3D shapes are to be found in everyday objects around us.

In our creative work this week we started our gifts for our stall on the Christmas Fayre…What we have made…..Is a surprise!

We have also enjoyed time in the Sensory Room and lunches with our friends.

Scottish Book Week in Ness

We had an amazing time visiting West Calder Library on Wednesday. It was a beautiful day and we saw lots of exciting things on the short walk up to the Library. Dominic and Hunter were very excited about the many road signs and warning signs we spotted- these keep people safe. Lochlan was hoping to see a train in the Train Station but we were unlucky- we did see lots of diggers though! When we got to the library, Shay and Laura had the best of times looking through all the books. We were even allowed to borrow a book using our class ticket! We plan to making this a regular outing and return our books after Christmas.

Seasonal cooking in Ness

After a bumper Harvest, Ness decided to use the spare apples which were available throughout the school. We explored recipes containing apples and learned how to safely chop and prepare apples for stewing. Well done to everyone who smelled and tasted the cooked apples! We designed a lovely dessert using meringues and custard to have with our stewed apples. Lots of instructions to follow and messy play!

Primary 1

On Monday we learned about Remembrance Day, we talk about why it was important to remember the soldiers. All of primary 1 were respectful during the two minutes silence and then we created our own popes which are on the wall to remind us.

On Tuesday we had a great session with our Primary 7 buddies. During this time we completed a STEM challenge and with the help of our buddies we created a STEM  planet each. We got to choose the materials we wanted to creat our planets. Spending time with our buddies was great fun. Once we completed our planet 🪐 we had time to read a book with our buddy.

We were all super proud of a member of our class who won 🥇 medals at at gymnastics competition 🌟

On Friday we did some more work to our Christmas 🎄 enterprise project .

P5s anti-bullying message

For anti-bullying week P5 have created a very moving iMovie to demonstrate why friendship and respect it’s important when facing bullying. We showed it to the whole school at a special assembly and everyone enjoyed watching it and discussing it. Brilliant work P5.

Primary 4 – Talk Money Week

Primary 4 have been learning more about money!
Talk Money Week is an annual campaign to get the nation talking about money.  This year, the week takes place from 4th – 8th November and the theme is ‘Do One Thing’.   Equipping our children to have the knowledge and skills to manage money effectively now and in the future is a valuable endeavour.
We looked at a range of notes and coins and spoke about the ways in which we can pay for items in shops and online.  Mr. Elliot kindly showed us a range of currency from around the world and we compared British money to that of different countries.  On Friday Bonnie brought in a $1 note and Jessica brought in a €10 note – thanks girls!
With a partner, we did “Let’s talk about money” conversation cards.   Examples of questions we spoke about include:
– Are you good at saving money?  If so, how do you save?
– How do you spend your money?  What do you usually buy?
– What would you do if you won the lottery?
– What was the last thing you bought?  Where did you buy it and how much did it cost?
– Would you lend money to a friend?  What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?
– Where is the safest place you can keep your money?
– Name some ways in which people can save more money.
Some of the children’s responses:
Alexander – The last thing I bought was bread and I got it at Scotmid and it cost £1.50.
Kiera – I save money in a piggy bank and I fill it with 1ps and 2ps.  It’s a grey elephant piggy bank.
Peter – If I won the lottery I’d buy thousands of Roblox!
Cody – With my money I usually buy bottles of water. football cards and sweets for me and my friends.
Luke – We pay for our shopping with a card.
Iza – Money can give you happiness because you can get toys and sweets and nice things.
Karlie – I would rather spend time with my family than have lots of money and spend it all, so money can’t really buy you happiness.
Jessica – Yeah, I’m good at saving money and I put most of my money in my wallet.
Jacob – I have given poor people some money.  If I was rich, I would give some of my money to poor people.
This year’s theme is “Do one thing” – here are some suggestions from P4 about what people could do to improve their financial wellbeing.
– Reuse and recycle items at home so  people are not buying things and spending money unnecessarily.
– Set a limit on what you spend.
– Turn off lights and put the heating lower to save money on energy bills.
– Visit places as a family that are free such as the park or museum.

Primary 1

In Primary 1 this week we learned about bonfire 🔥 night. We used different materials to create a bonfire landscape picture, thinking about times we have saw fireworks before and what they look like as well as the sound. I think you will agree that we did a fantastic job.

We also got started on our Christmas 🎄 enterprise activity….we will keep it a surprise for you all 😉 Lots of fun was had during the first step of making it, we hope you are going to love them.

During number work we have started making number stories, we have all been working very hard learning the meaning of the symbols + =. In our class we have created a number bond to 10 tree to help us.

We have been practicing our first 25 common word in class and some children can now read all 25 words 🥳 Super work🥳we are so proud.

Rannoch News!

A lovely week in Rannoch.

We have enjoyed Outdoor Learning this week in lovely Autumnal sunshine.  We also continued to explore our Topic of Houses and Homes.

We also made our own playdough in Autumnal colours which we really enjoyed!  We have also worked with Numicon to develop our Numeracy skills, and have looked at the initial sound ‘a’ during our Read, Write Inc learning time. We have also enjoyed looking at our new Julia Donaldson books and being read to.

Who let the Pigs Out? P5!!!

Primary 5 today had a trip to nursery to reacquaint themselves with the guinea pigs – Muffin and Biscuit – before we host them later in the month! The furry friends will be arriving in P5 the week after next and will be shared around several classes during their two-week holiday to St Mary’s.  After a cuddle with both we got to ask some questions about guinea pig care. We have also been doing a little bit of learning and writing about this too. We can’t wait for our piggy pals to join us in P5!
