P1 Celebrate Shrove Tuesday

Today is Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday. To celebrate  the last day before Lent we chopped fruit and decided on our favourite toppings for our pancakes.  We had lots to choose from, Nutella, jam, syrup, strawberries and banana.

We managed to complete our tealight holders today. They had dried over the holiday and we added paint to make them colourful.

Primary 4

What a busy last week of term we had in Primary 4!
We enjoyed participating in the schools Scots Poetry competition, our three class finalists did us proud, getting up on stage in front of the school. Well done 👏

We have also been enjoying our new science 🧪 topic, making predictions, completing experiments and writing up our findings. Our focus was on dissolving things in water, what dissolves, what doesn’t and what speeds things up. We created our own rainbows 🌈 in a bowl!

We also had lots of fun creating our own raps to a beat of music, we enjoyed performing these to each other in class. We enjoyed making a beat and finding rhyming words.

P7 are the WINNERS of the Door Design Competition!

Primary 7 put their Art skills to good use to create a super painting of a lion for their door.  They are the winners of the competition which was run by the school Literacy Group.  They received a certificate and a prize to share.

The whole school took part in the competition to design their classroom door related to a book they have been reading in class.  The whole school then voted for their favourite design.

A big well done to everyone for taking part.

St Mary’s Scots Poetry Competition – won by Elise in P6!

This week the Scots Poetry competition took place in the hall. It was a wonderful celebration of Scots language with pupils from each class taking part by reading poems and singing songs.
P6’s Elise won with her recital of The Puddock by John M Caie. Elise gets to take home the coveted Robert Sorbie memorial plaque which will shortly be engraved with her name!
Well done also to Shaheen, Kara and Kymberley and Oliver for reaching the final too! You were all braw!

Cooking Club

We’ve had a brilliant second week at cooking club.

This week, we worked in pairs to make pizza. We had to mix and make the dough base and then decide on our toppings. Once our toppings were on, we popped them onto trays, ready for the oven.

We had lots of fun and look forward to making some more food in 2 weeks time.

We are artists in P2!

This week in P2 we have been learning about Picasso. We learned that he was a Spanish artist who painted liked to use cubism to create his images. We tried this technique and were very proud of what we achieved.

In topic we learned about how houses on islands might be different to ours. We compared and discussed the differences of the two and created models of an island house.

Over the past few weeks we have been learning to sing Katie Bairdie. We enjoyed performing it today in front  of some of you. We have recorded it too- click the link below to watch it.

P6’s busy week!

P6 have had a busy week. We started our new topic – Europe – and have begun to learn about Flags and country facts. As well as learning about Europe generally, each pupil has  picked two countries to research and present to the rest of the class.  A P6 team of 4 pupils will be entered into the Euroquiz heats next month, but the whole class will enjoy learning about Europe!

In literacy we have been working on writing our Information Report about Burns Night. We have also been smashing our spelling words and showcasing our numerous strategies which have been helping us in our weekly test.

In numeracy we have nearly come to the end of our work on 12h and 24 h time and solving problems of time durations using a number line.

On Thursday we baked some yummy raspberry and blueberry muffins with lemon icing and really enjoyed eating one in the afternoon too!

Well done P6!

P1 Shining A Light

Every Monday in  P1  we reflect on the Gospel from Mass that week. The Gospel this week told us how we can be an example to others, like a light  shining to show the way. We can shine our light by helping others, sharing, being kind and always trying our best and using our talents. We listened to one of our favourite hymns which you can listen to by clicking the link.

We decided to use clay to make our own candle holders which we can take home and use shine a light in times of darkness.
