P4-7 put on a Shrek-tacular show!

Tonight was the opening performance of Shrek the Musical and what a show! All pupils have worked hard for months to bring the show to the stage! As well as learning lines and dancing, pupils made all the scenery and props, created a giant Fairy Tale book and did important behind the scenes work including lighting, sound, scene changes and more! Well done everyone! It really was a Shrek-tacular show!

Zoo fun in Primary 1!

Welcome to Edinburgh Zoo | Edinburgh Zoo

WHAT A DAY!  Primary 1 had a brilliant day at Edinburgh Zoo yesterday.  We enjoyed a visit to the Education Centre for a whole school quiz about endangered animals, then visited the penguins before sitting under a big shaded tree for some lunch.  After lunch we played at the play park before setting off to further explore the amazing Zoo!  We saw so many beautiful animals.  We especially loved seeing the penguins, koalas, tigers and giraffes.  Sadly, the pandas were settled in the long grass, and even though we couldn’t see them clearly, we could hear them munching on their food! There were lots of steep hills and we did a lot of walking and our teachers were very proud of all of us for keeping up.  A quick visit to the gift shop followed, before getting back on the bus for our return to school.

A super trip for our super Primary 1s.

Zoo – Primary 4

WOW what a great day Primary 4 have had at the Zoo!

It was very hot and we were careful to keep hydrated and keep safe in the sun.

We enjoyed a session about endangered animals in the zoo education centre followed by time to explore the animals in the zoo. We enjoyed reading the map and all the facts about the animals.

P2 at Edinburgh Zoo

What a day we have had today!!

When we got to the zoo we took part in an interactive quiz where we were learning and guessing what animals were endangered.

We then had lunch in the shade by the penguins. We tried to get around as many animal enclosures as we could and seen most animals. Our favourite animals were the giraffes, pandas, flamingos, kangaroos, penguins, tigers, hippos and monkeys. We have loved our trip today and now want to go to the safari park!!

Water fun in Primary 1!

Uses of water | Importance of water | Water and it's uses | Uses of water for kids | Use of water - YouTube

As part of our learning in Science, P1 have been learning about water.  We spoke about how we use water in our every day lives and know that we need water to survive.   We made a long list of everything we know about water and it was very long!  We know that water can freeze when it is cold and it can melt when it is warm.  Today we experimented with ice and water and added some food colouring too!  The ice eventually melted into water.

This week in P1

We have had a great week spending lots of time outdoors. On Monday we began our new section of measure with our focus on weight. We estimated and weighted different objects around the classroom using balance scales. We tried to estimate how many cubes each object weighed and we then tested our answers by weighing the objects.

We really enjoyed our walk to West Calder library on a beautiful sunny Tuesday. We loved exploring the choice of books and reading them. We were lucky to get to check out our own books which we will read in class. Thanks to Ann who works in the library for helping us and making our visit so enjoyable.
During our outdoor education we said goodbye to our fully grown butterflies. We have enjoyed watching them go through their life cycle and learning all about them.

Water safety in P2

Folowing on from learning how to be safe in the sun last week,  today we looked at how we can be safe in and around water.  We thought about the different places we can find water and why we need to be safe even if we are just walking beside it. We discussed the different things that can be dangerous and what we can do to keep ourselves safe. We also thought about what we would do if we were or seen somone in trouble. We created some warning posters and tried on Miss Lawtons buoyancy aid.

Primary 4

We enjoyed a lovely 🥰 morning at the school “big breakfast”. It was lovely to have so many families join us for breakfast.

We also had a great morning talking about what we look for in a friend and how we can be a good friend to others, we all enjoyed sharing our learning with grown ups that could come along.

in class we have been closely watching our caterpillars 🐛 grow and then patiently wait on them turning into butterflies 🦋 Today we released them. Some of us got to hold them but we were very understanding that they are delicate and we need to let them fly off.

To end the week w had some fun in the sun for our fun 31 time! Have a lovely weekend everyone ☀️
