Cooking Club Week 1

This week we kicked off our cooking club. We have four Creative Curriculum pupil leaders helping us plan and lead the learning.

We started of agreeing some rules for cooking club and brainstorming what we would like to cook during the club time.

After we all washed our hands we got started making iced Halloween themed biscuits. Everyone enjoyed mixing ingredients and deciding what they would do on this biscuits. We were all very pleased with our biscuits.

Our Pupil Leaders we also looking out for someone who was paying attention to all the instructions and following them well so they could award one person Masterchef of the week……will it be you next week?

During Art this week we created witch decorations for our Halloween 🎃 party, we made scary witches 🧙

We have been using pumpkins 🎃 in class to to work on our fine motor skills, we have loved making patterns on the pumpkins and using tools.

Working on our meta skills we have started Building Thinking Classrooms in our classroom, this involves working together to solve a problem. We  all did very well working in randomly selected groups.

During outdoor learning we went up to the woods and made magic wand’s for Halloween . We talked about rhyming words for spells and how we could use things from nature to decorate.

Creative Curriculum Committee

Our Creative Curriculum Committee got together to discuss how we would like to lead the school forward in our leadership role.
During our meeting we had a focus on our school garden 🪴

We agreed that it is all our responsibility to keep our school garden looking good. Everyone had a good look around  to see what’s going well and what we could do to make the garden even better.

Everyone agreed that the herb garden 🪴 was good and we enjoyed smelling and identifying some herbs, but we think we can be better gardeners so we plan to buy each class some seeds/ bulbs and assign each class a space.

As part of our leadership role in the school we also would like the opportunity to teach others, share our skills and as we are the Creative Curriculum Committee we agreed a good way to do this would be through games!
We want to use our participatory budget to buy some board games and create a Games Club….. watch this space.

 

 

Primary 1, Whole School Events

At the start of the week we enjoyed washing, peeling and chopping the vegetables we harvested from the school garden to make soup. We were all very careful when using the peelers and knife. After we got the vegetables ready we put them in a pot to make soup 🍲 In the afternoon we shared our soup with our P7 buddies during our Buddy Time. They helped us to butter our bread to dip in the soup,

During outdoor learning this week we explored the school outdoor classroom. Some of us made an obstacle course using our balance skills to walk over it. We loved exploring the toys out in the classroom and this gave us the opportunity to play outside without getting caught in the heavy rain.

In Primary 1 we have all been enjoying building, building with bricks, building with LEGO, building with boxes, we love creating things and decided that we would like to build with our Primary 7 buddies.

We have been learning all about our bodies and this week we were luck to have Dexter the Dentist Dragon 🐉 visit us. He showed us how to correctly clean our teeth 🦷. He was very  impressed with our teeth brushing at home.

During outdoor learning we took some animals up to the woodland area. Our job was to make a home for them, we all did very well. We then listened to a story about Spiders 🕷️.

On Friday we enjoyed fun 31 with Primary 2, some of us played bingo together.

To kick start our week in Primary 1 we enjoyed a lovely session with our Primary 7 buddies. We made paper plate crafts. We had to work with our buddies to decide on what we wanted to do before making lots of lovely creations.

On Thursday Primary 1 walked up to the local woodland area where we thought about our senses. Together with Primary 2 we completed a survey, we had to think about what we could see 👀 hear 👂 and smell 👃. We had lots of fun enjoying nature.

We have all been enjoying building with the blocks, Lego and boxes, we have made some amazing creations.

Primary 1 have been learning about the. Hangers in the seasons and what happens when we move from summer to autumn 🍂.

We had a lovely local walk where we collected fallen leaves 🍂. We took them back to the classroom to press them before turning them into artwork…watch this space.

We then had a lovely trip to the park with Primary 2. We loved playing on the equipment with our friends.

On Friday we all enjoyed our Big Breakfast 🥞 and Sharing our Learning with some of our adults. We loved showing the adults what we have been learning.

Primary 1 enjoyed a lovely buddy session this week, we listened to “What We’ll Build” by Oliver Jeffers. We then then built things in our classroom with our buddies.

In RE this week we discussed how we use our hands to pray 🙏 and thought about who we talk to when we pray. We used this to create beautiful praying hands pictures.

On Thursday we enjoyed our outdoor learning session in the school garden, 🪴 we loved digging for treasure and found lots of potatoes 🥔.  Everyone has agreed that we would love to clean them and make something with them.

Another fantastic week of learning in Primary 1. A firm favourite this  week has been PE, we all enjoy having space to run around, work together and playing games.

We explored friendships this week, what makes a good friend and how we are a good friend, after talking about this we then created images of ourselves and our friends. We are all very proud of them.

Everyone in Primary 1 is becoming more independent when it comes to making lunch choices, collecting their lunch as well as clearing it away before play. Lots of us are beginning to try new things and enjoying having choices.

On Friday we participated in our first School Mass, we were all very respectful and sang our hearts ♥️ out.

Primary 1 have been looking 👀 at themselves to create a Primary 1 passports all about them. This week we focused on our eyes, we enjoyed looking at each others eyes to see all the different colours.

During the week we have enjoyed our PE sessions and getting outside to work on our skills. We played games and spent some time in the trim trail working on our balance and coordination.

Everyone has been doing very well adjusting to Primary 1, learning the school values and the routines of school, Miss Stenhouse is very proud of everyone’s efforts..
