Primary 1

Everyone in Primary 1 was delighted that our caterpillars 🐛 had emerged from their chrysalis as beautiful butterflies 🦋. We looked after them in the classroom for a few days, they loved oranges 🍊. When it was time t release them some of us we sad but we talked about how it wasn’t fair to keep the butterflies 🦋 in class as they needed to  be able to fly. We loved seeing the butterflies 🦋 in the flowers 🌺.

Throughout the week we have explored different ways to measure 📏  we all enjoyed measuring each other  as well as other items in the classroom.

On Friday we had our last Big Breakfast 🥞 and Sharing our Learning in Primary 1. Our theme this time was Health and Wellbeing and we decided that we wanted to share Worry Monsters with our adults.  Everyone loves it when our adults come into school .

Have a lovely weekend 😀

Primary 1

Primary 1 have had another fabulous learning week!

On Monday we learned all about Pentecost and how the Holy Spirit is all around us.  We made our own Holy Spirit headbands.

As well have caterpillars 🐛 in class we have been learning all about the life cycle of butterflies 🦋 and we used this to inspire out artwork. We discussed how butterflies 🦋 are symmetrical and created our own butterflies 🦋 . We had lots of fun creating our butterflies.

A special visitor made a delivery 📦 to our classroom, a dragon 🐉 looking for help with Fairyland. The dragon left us lots of fairytale books 📚 to read and asked us to red them and created our own fairyland. Primary 1 decided to start with Jack and the Bean Stalk. We enjoyed listening to the story, exploring the pictures in the book and we used the ideas to create our own giant and beanstalk 🫘 🌱.

During the week we also got to enjoy watching the Teachers v Pupils netball game, we enjoyed cheering on our teacher.

On Thursday we had a super afternoon at the school careers fair, we loved meeting parents who came in to share what they do as a job as well as people from the emergency 🚨 services. This was very interesting and lots of fun! Thursday afternoon was also “play afternoon “ Which the Creative and Digital committee had planned, it was great to be able to bring in toys from home and share why we like them with our friends.

Have a lovely weekend everyone 😀

Primary 1 Health Week Day 4

Last day of Health Week and it’s was another busy one. We started our day with a session with PC Sean. This was lots of fun as well as giving us lots of information about how to stay safe and how the police can help us. We also got the opportunity to investigate some equipment and police uniform he brought along to show us.

Next up for us was a mini marathon 🏃‍♀️ 🏃 we found this challenging but fun, we enjoyed running with our friends. We talked about how it’s very good for our health to do something that challenges us.

As well as looking after our bodies we also need to look after minds and we enjoyed our Mental Health session where we talked about what we could do when we are feeling sad, upset, angry or frustrated and what makes us feel happy and safe.

Let but not least, our last session of the week was Dancing with Next Steps. Some of us thought we didn’t like dancing but  our faces said differently and afterwards we all agreed it was lots of fun.

We hope you have a lovely weekend 😀

Primary 1 Health week day 3

Back with a bang 💥 this morning as we had a session with our Active Schools Coordinator. We were learning tennis 🎾 skills, running and moving in different directions, bouncing balls 🎾 and then using a tennis racket .

After break we walked up to West Calder bowling club where we learned all about playing Bowles 🎳 The walk was far but we all did very well and everyone tried their best. Bowling was fun and we were glad the rain stopped for us as it was outside in the grass. Some of us had been to indoor bowling before but this was a lot different.

In the afternoon we had a gymnastics 🤸 session. For some of us we have been to gymnastics 🤸 before but for a lot of us this was our first try. Some of the moves were tricky but we used our perseverance and had lots of fun doing it.

We did extra walking today along the Polbeth river, we talked about what animals might live in this area.

What another fabulously health day 😀

Primary 1 Health week day two

Another busy day in Primary one, today we kicked off our morning with a visit from the dental nurse 🦷. She brought her tooth brushing dragon friend with her,  she demonstrated brushing his teeth and we had a discussion all about keeping our teeth and gums healthy.

After break we enjoyed a Judo workshop where we learned some basic Judo moves, this was lots of fun, and totally out of some of our comfort zones but we gave it a try.

Football was next on our adventures, we enjoyed working with the football ⚽️ coach to learn drills. Again some of us  thought we wouldn’t enjoy football or be able to do it but we all gave it a good go.

Our final activity of the day was a scavenger hunt in the community garden. We walked along from the school and we adhered to the safety rules of walking beside a road. We completed the scavenger hunt in pairs and had a great time exploring the community garden 🪴 🌳 🪏 🌺 🐦 🧚

Another fantastic health day in Primary 1😀

Primary 1 Health Week Day one

What a fantastic start to health week we have had in Primary 1!
We kicked off the day with a Showtime Circus 🎪 session. This was lots of fun.

After Showtime Circus 🎪 we made fruit 🍋‍🟩 🍇 🍌 🍎  🍓 kebabs and made smoothies using the smoothie bike. This was very tasty and fun.

After lunchtime we had an outdoor learning experience where we enjoyed being out in the school trim trail. We talked about how moving our bodies by playing is a great way to keep healthy. We also talked about how it’s okay to eat things that are not classed as a treat and we had a lovely treat at the 🔥 bonfire. As always, we enjoyed spending time with the Primary 7’s.

Primary 1 finished the day with a silent 💃 🕺 🪩. Dancing is a super way to keep our bodies healthy and have fun 🤩.

More photos have been shared on Seesaw.

Primary 1 Sports day 2026

Wow what a great effort for our very first sports day at school. Some of us were very nervous but we all tried our best and used our perseverance. We were also excited to see some of our grown ups races as well. 🏃 🏃‍♀️

We hope everyone had a good time watching our sports day 😀 Have a lovely long weekend.

Primary 1

This week in Primary 1 we received a special delivery…. Caterpillars 🐛. We were all very excited about watching them grow and taking care of them. Some of us remembered caterpillars 🐛 from nursery but we couldn’t remember any details about them. Everyone has agreed to take care of them and we are keen to learn how they turn into butterflies 🦋.

On Wednesday we  took part in our school committee groups where get to make leadership choices about our school. We all enjoy getting to work together with boys and girls across the whole school.

It was was a bit confusing 🫤 to have a Thursday off school but when we came back in on Friday we enjoyed telling all our friends about what we got up to on our extra day at home.

Everyone has shown a keen interest in making paper aeroplanes ✈️ this has been lots of fun designing then and seeing who’s aeroplane ✈️ could fly the furthest.
Have a lovely weekend 😀

Primary 1

With the weather improving Primary 1 have been enjoying some time outdoors.
During outdoor learning we had to measure different things outside. We worked with partners to completed this and enjoyed being up in the woodland area.

In our PE sessions as well as enjoying our equipment session we have been practicing outside for sports day coming up. Everyone is excited to be taking part in sports day.

In RE this week we learned the Story of the Good Shepherd and discussed how God is our Shepherd and he tries to guide us safely.

On Thursday we went a walk up to the nursery to visit our friends. Lots of us were talking about our time at nursery and how we missed our friends. This gave us the opportunity to talk about how some of these friends will be coming to school soon and we will be moving to Primary 2. We had a lovely time and decided we would like to go back again.

On Friday we enjoyed the Primary 5 assembly about oceans, we found this very interesting as we have been learning about oceans and creatures that live in them.

We hope everyone has a lovely long weekend 😉 hopefully Mr Sun ☀️ will stay out.
