Primary 1 Health week day 3

Back with a bang 💥 this morning as we had a session with our Active Schools Coordinator. We were learning tennis 🎾 skills, running and moving in different directions, bouncing balls 🎾 and then using a tennis racket .

After break we walked up to West Calder bowling club where we learned all about playing Bowles 🎳 The walk was far but we all did very well and everyone tried their best. Bowling was fun and we were glad the rain stopped for us as it was outside in the grass. Some of us had been to indoor bowling before but this was a lot different.

In the afternoon we had a gymnastics 🤸 session. For some of us we have been to gymnastics 🤸 before but for a lot of us this was our first try. Some of the moves were tricky but we used our perseverance and had lots of fun doing it.

We did extra walking today along the Polbeth river, we talked about what animals might live in this area.

What another fabulously health day 😀

Primary 1 Health week day two

Another busy day in Primary one, today we kicked off our morning with a visit from the dental nurse 🦷. She brought her tooth brushing dragon friend with her,  she demonstrated brushing his teeth and we had a discussion all about keeping our teeth and gums healthy.

After break we enjoyed a Judo workshop where we learned some basic Judo moves, this was lots of fun, and totally out of some of our comfort zones but we gave it a try.

Football was next on our adventures, we enjoyed working with the football ⚽️ coach to learn drills. Again some of us  thought we wouldn’t enjoy football or be able to do it but we all gave it a good go.

Our final activity of the day was a scavenger hunt in the community garden. We walked along from the school and we adhered to the safety rules of walking beside a road. We completed the scavenger hunt in pairs and had a great time exploring the community garden 🪴 🌳 🪏 🌺 🐦 🧚

Another fantastic health day in Primary 1😀

Primary 1 Health Week Day one

What a fantastic start to health week we have had in Primary 1!
We kicked off the day with a Showtime Circus 🎪 session. This was lots of fun.

After Showtime Circus 🎪 we made fruit 🍋‍🟩 🍇 🍌 🍎  🍓 kebabs and made smoothies using the smoothie bike. This was very tasty and fun.

After lunchtime we had an outdoor learning experience where we enjoyed being out in the school trim trail. We talked about how moving our bodies by playing is a great way to keep healthy. We also talked about how it’s okay to eat things that are not classed as a treat and we had a lovely treat at the 🔥 bonfire. As always, we enjoyed spending time with the Primary 7’s.

Primary 1 finished the day with a silent 💃 🕺 🪩. Dancing is a super way to keep our bodies healthy and have fun 🤩.

More photos have been shared on Seesaw.

Primary 1 Sports day 2026

Wow what a great effort for our very first sports day at school. Some of us were very nervous but we all tried our best and used our perseverance. We were also excited to see some of our grown ups races as well. 🏃 🏃‍♀️

We hope everyone had a good time watching our sports day 😀 Have a lovely long weekend.

Primary 1

This week in Primary 1 we received a special delivery…. Caterpillars 🐛. We were all very excited about watching them grow and taking care of them. Some of us remembered caterpillars 🐛 from nursery but we couldn’t remember any details about them. Everyone has agreed to take care of them and we are keen to learn how they turn into butterflies 🦋.

On Wednesday we  took part in our school committee groups where get to make leadership choices about our school. We all enjoy getting to work together with boys and girls across the whole school.

It was was a bit confusing 🫤 to have a Thursday off school but when we came back in on Friday we enjoyed telling all our friends about what we got up to on our extra day at home.

Everyone has shown a keen interest in making paper aeroplanes ✈️ this has been lots of fun designing then and seeing who’s aeroplane ✈️ could fly the furthest.
Have a lovely weekend 😀

Primary 1

With the weather improving Primary 1 have been enjoying some time outdoors.
During outdoor learning we had to measure different things outside. We worked with partners to completed this and enjoyed being up in the woodland area.

In our PE sessions as well as enjoying our equipment session we have been practicing outside for sports day coming up. Everyone is excited to be taking part in sports day.

In RE this week we learned the Story of the Good Shepherd and discussed how God is our Shepherd and he tries to guide us safely.

On Thursday we went a walk up to the nursery to visit our friends. Lots of us were talking about our time at nursery and how we missed our friends. This gave us the opportunity to talk about how some of these friends will be coming to school soon and we will be moving to Primary 2. We had a lovely time and decided we would like to go back again.

On Friday we enjoyed the Primary 5 assembly about oceans, we found this very interesting as we have been learning about oceans and creatures that live in them.

We hope everyone has a lovely long weekend 😉 hopefully Mr Sun ☀️ will stay out.

Primary 1

This week we have enjoyed having some sunshine ☀️.

During outdoor learning we got out to check on the seeds we planted and collected bugs 🐛 We were very good at identifying different types of bugs 🐞 and respectful at putting them back where we found them. Some  of us were a little frightened to catch the bugs 🐛 but we worked as a team. We had to use trowels to find the bugs in the earth.

In topic work we have been learning that there are lots and lots of different creatures in the sea 🌊 and this week we focused on naming some of them. We all did very well at matching the creatures to their names.

We used good coordination skills to catch fish 🐟 with our magnetic fishing rods and enjoyed catching the fish eggs with the fishing net.

As it is spring time some of us made spring flower hand prints, we have discussed how in springtime flowers start to grow and the weather gets a bit better.  When the weather is nice we get to go out to the back playground at lunchtime, we all enjoy exploring the playground.

We have also enjoyed using the light up boards for independent writing.

Have a lovely weekend.

Primary 1

Primary 1 settled straight back into learning after our Easter Holidays. Everyone has showed the school values and enjoyed being back together with our friends.

In number work we have been learning about sharing and making equal groups. We have shared out different items with each other making sure everyone had an equal amount, this makes it fair. To stretch our learning we then worked on adding equal groups together. As a challenge Primary 1 requested to learn how to count in 2’s.

We have enjoyed learning more fun facts about sea creatures, this week we learned that when a group of fish swim together we call that a school of fish.

During art we made water colour sea scenes and added tropical fish to them, We were focusing on our brush stroke work making them look like 🌊 waves. We talked lots about what the sea looks like , if is was smooth or wavy and if it was all the one colour. After our fish dried we added details to them and put them on our ocean scenes.

Have a lovely weekend 😀

Primary 1

We have had fun learning week in Primary 1.

For outdoor learning we had a lovely walk to the park, having lots of fun together working on our motor skills.

We were all delight to take our sunflowers 🌻 home this week, we are looking forward to seeing how big they grow.

On Friday we decorated real eggs 🥚. We have learned where eggs come from  🐓 and that they are very delicate. Miss Stenhouse boiled them so they were a bit stronger.

We hope you have a lovely Easter holiday.
