P3A – WB 21.03.22

Dear Readers,

We hope you are all well and also that you have been enjoying these beautiful sunny days.

This week’s highlights were:

  • In Literacy, we learned more about exposition/persuasive texts and their features, continued reading our super interesting novel George’s Marvellous Medicine and learned how to write acrostic poems. We have revised the features of sentences and introduced the concept of paragraph. Our weekly spelling assessment was, as usual, today, and the children worked hard to get 10/10!
  • In Maths and Numeracy we have been working really hard on our 2,3,4,5 and 10 times tables and also on the division facts of the tables for all of them!
  • Regarding Topic, our class novel, we have been discussing all its different aspects and completing different tasks, including an acrostic poem about the word Marvellous!
  • For Health and Wellbeing we are continuing to work on making good choices and helping others to make good choices, even when we do not feel very happy about them. We have also been learning and working a lot on the need to make things right if we have made a bad choice, since many still find it very hard to apologise. As we proud ourselves on being very polite and kind we now have a kindness jar which will hopefully be emptied every fortnight to find out who the kindest person has been! Really looking forward for the counting of the kindness notes on Monday!

And that’s all for today!

We hope you have a wonderful and bright weekend filled with fun and laughter!

P7a Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

This week’s learning was really enjoyable though the Ipad has been getting updated so we’ve no photos unfortunately.

Mrs Amatler visited again on Monday, delivering a lesson which will help us with Reciporcal Reading lessons we will be starting next term.

We have continued with our class novel ‘The Explorer’ and have been reading about the children eating tarantulas to survive! Apparently they taste a bit like chicken.

In writing we have been continuing with Exposition and this week tried to persuade people that there shouldn’t be school uniform.

We took drama outside this week because the weather was so nice and did the same for Fun Friday.

Outdoor Learning was a very popular lesson where we had bread on a stick at the firepit. We rolled dough and wrapped it around long stick we found in the woodlands before cooking it over the fire and then enjoying (or not) eating it. Sorry for all the smoky uniforms sent home on Thursday!

Friday’s maths was problem solving using a new resource and we had to solve a murder mystery using 12 and 24h times to track peoples locations and figure out who the murder was.

Mya was this week’s Hot Chocolate at home winner and Caoimhe is our new Reading Champion.

Next week is the final week before the Easter holidays and we have lots and lots of learning planned.

Enjoy your weekend,

Mr McGurn and P7a.

P3B Learning Highlights – 25.3.21

It’s been another very busy week in Primary 3B!

In literacy, we have been continuing to work on persuasive writing (exposition).  We used the plans that we made last week to write to the rest of the school, telling them why we think it is a good idea to wear school uniform.  The children did a fantastic job and were very persuasive!

In Maths and Numeracy, we continued to learn about counting different amounts of money. We have also began working on division.  We quickly realised that the better we know our times tables, the quicker we can work out the answers to division questions.  It would be fantastic if all the children could practise the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables at home.

The winner of the Hot Chocolate Friday award this week is Jude.  This was very well deserved as Jude is always hard working in class and is very kind and helpful to others.

We have a new award which is for a class Reading Champion.  Our new Reading Champion is Ishani M.  Ishani loves reading books and is always enthusiastic when discussing books in class.

Here are a few of the children’s learning highlights this week:

Daniel: I liked doing gymnastics in the hall.

Jude: I enjoyed Art on Friday morning.

Stefi: I enjoyed learning times tables and division.

Amelia: I enjoyed music with Mrs Morrison

Matteo: I liked telling people why school uniforms are a good idea!

Ishani M: I loved reading our class book, George’s Marvellous Medicine!

Layla: I liked the word boost book this week – Tyrannosaurus Drip!

We wish you all a fantastic weekend!

P6B Learning highlights- week beginning 21.3.22

Good afternoon,

Literacy: This week our class participated in a valuable lesson on visualisation. We were able to successfully draw what we had imagined in our heads as we listened to descriptions. We enjoyed looking at all of our drawings and comparing as we all visualise things in different ways.

Numeracy and Maths: We have continued to work on missing numbers and algebraic equations. We were able to successfully represent numbers for letters and shapes using inverse rules. In maths we used our knowledge of times tables to work on area and could use A=LXB to work out the area covered.

Art: We tied our art lesson in with our outdoor learning as we looked for signs of Spring.

Outdoor learning: We went out on our class walk to look for signs of Spring. We came across some flowers beginning to bloom, trees blossoming, and signs of new life.

Over and above: Well done to Ethan for working hard in Literacy and maths to achieve the hot chocolate at home.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Roy

Primary 6A Weekly Update 25th March 2022

On Tuesday this week it was World Water Day.

This week’s Children Rights activities linkedto the following articles:

Article 24 (health and health services): Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.

Article 27 (adequate standard of living): Every child has the right to a standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical and social needs and support their development. Governments must help families who cannot afford to provide this.

We made posters to highlight the dangers from pollution and climate change to the amount of clean useable water. We were shocked to learn that 1000 children a day die from lack of clean, drinkable water.

In math we continued developing our understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages by using our knowledge of multiplication and division

We made Persuasive Tourist Posters which your child can show you theirs on Teams.

On Wednesday we explored the woods and played cooperative games. In Art this week we created cherry blossom trees.

Next week we will continue our persuasive writing ‘Why should every child should learn to swim?’  and continue to find fractions, percentages and decimal amounts.

Have a lovely weekend.

P4A Learning this week 25th March 2022

This week we started looking  at expositions.  We learned this was persuasive writing telling one side of the story.  We watched some adverts for Ikea and Iphones and looked at printed adverts.  We then worked out what the purpose of the adverts were and who the intended audience was.  We also enjoyed a persuasive poem about cats.

In maths we worked with function machines.   Bentley learned that there is “inputs and outputs” and Dawid learned that “process is the job it does in the middle”.

Liliana enjoyed “PE because we had lots of different equipment out and it was fun.  I learned how to do a back walkover off a piece of equipment.”  and Emili “learned how to do a front walkover.”

Tyler liked learning about the gladiators who fought at the colosseum.  Eilidh, Max and Carina enjoyed creating a newspaper article all about their ‘Night at the Collosseum’

Jacob liked hearing the story of Joseph and his brothers.  He couldn’t believe that his brothers would tell such lies!  Farrah liked designing a beautiful and colourful coat for Joseph.  She used lots of different rainbow patterns and dots.

Our hot chocolate this week is Emili.  Well done and keep up the hard work.  Our new reading champion is Liliana.

We are looking forward to our last week before Easter and learning all about the Easter Story!

P2A Week Beginning 14th March

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Yellow Table:

Aiden G loved making his grass head.  The children are growing grass as a follow up to a book week activity as well as learning about what plants need to survive.  They personalised them with different facial features.  They are looking forward to watching them grow and eventually being able to give them a haircut!

Pola liked learning about the moon.  We saw images of it up close on the NASA website and watched the very first moon landing!  We practised saying, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” in an American accent.

Ruari enjoyed our St Patrick’s Day craft.  I hope you enjoyed the pictures on Seesaw.

Rebekah liked our Word Boost story, ‘Owen and the Mountain’.  Her favourite word was ‘enter’.  Mrs Devlin says this word each day in Spanish as the children enter the room.

Eva loved PE with Mrs Lafferty this week as the children continue to develop their gymnastics skills.

Kyle said the highlight of his week was writing a list about what he would pack for a trip to the moon.  He said he would definitely need to take a book to enjoy.

My highlight was our Day of Prayer activities on Friday.  The children where split into small groups and each had a P7 helper.  Clipboard in hand, they went into the playground in search for different items in nature.  Upon finding these items, they ticked them off on the chart and gathered together in their group where the P7 led them in prayer, thanking God for his beautiful creation.  Thank you P7s for your support with our P2s.  You were very responsible and respectful.

P2B – Week Beginning 14th March 2022

Hello Parents,

We have had a fantastic week! This week we have enjoyed doing more topic work and had lots of fun making some space art. We have created a Solar System display in our window, remember to have a look when you go past! We have also been learning some more Spanish and will be using it daily – the children enjoyed playing a lotto game with the Spanish days of the week and like to remind me that there is no capital letter for Spanish days of the week.

Pictures below are the children as astronauts floating about in space and visiting the moon!

Today we enjoyed taking part in a prayer walk – we had to find various things outside and when we found them in our groups, our P7 leader would help us say a special prayer. Thank you to all of the P7s, it was super!

Highlights from the Blue table:

Daniel – I liked PE because I like doing cartwheels on the mats.

Sean – I liked doing the space art but it was tricky to make the stars on the paper and not go everywhere.

Moeez – I liked PE, doing rolls on the mats and going on the bench.

Rowan – I liked PE best because I did a cartwheel and landed on my feet!

Nicolas – I liked doing the prayer walk because we found them all.

Olek –  I liked the prayer walk too because my group found everything first, it was so fast.

Well done to Moeez, our hot chocolate award winner.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lawrence
