Bright Sparks

We have been learning about keeping safe with electricity.  We worked in groups to make some rules.  Here are P1/2 and P1’s rules.  Talk about them at home if you can.

Always switch off before unplugging

Keep feet out of the way of cables so you don’t trip

Don’t put metal things in your toaster or dvd player

Never stand on broken wires

Don’t leave hot things on because they might cause a fire

Don’t touch plugs or switches with wet hands

Don’t have things plugged in near water like a sink or bath – you might get an electric shock if it falls in

Have a safe weekend:)

P1/2 reflective learning

This week we have been busy learning about electricity and what we need it for.  We made posters by cutting out pictures of things we know need electricity to work.  We had great fun cutting and sticking things on.  Next we are going to learn about how to stay safe when using electical items.

Home link – can you all remeber to switch off lights, TVs and games when you are not using them. We are trying to remember to do this in class.

Primary 2

The children have been using play scripts in drama.  We used The Gingerbread Man and the children had fun in role as the characters.   In science we learned about friction using cars and a variety of ramps and in art we explored sculpture.  We looked at the different materials that were used to make sculptures, what inspired the creations and got some ideas for our own creations.

This week is Health Week.  Please remember to bring outdoor and indoor gym kit as well as a bottle of water and healthy snacks.

Primary 2

Last week the children designed and made games using magnets.  Pupils worked in groups to create their designs.  We will try them out this week to find out what the other groups think of them.

Primary 4

This week we have been learning about the uses of water in Science.  We made a diagram to show how we had used water in a day.  Next week we will be learning about how important water is to us and how we can prevent water wastage.

We wrote imaginative stories in writing about travelling in a Time Machine.  Some people went on an adventure to the past and some people went into the future!

Next week Ewan McVicar will be visiting Primary 4.   He is going to talk to us about food in other countries.   We will also be taking part in a joint bird migration art activity with another school in Africa.

Primary 6

Last week we started badminton in P.E. with Mrs Pender.  We performed our fitness routines to P4 too, it was great fun.

For reading the blue group created good questions and the red reading group made persuasive leaflets.

To finish our Body, Bones and Blood topic we made line graphs to see who had the smallest bones.  Each group had a different bone to gather data on.

In writing we created our own characters.  We had to make them seem real by adding action, speech and feelings.

We are all looking forward to starting our new topic next week – Titanic!

Remember to keep practising your Scots poem for Monday!

Primary 5

Primary 5 have been linking RME and Science this week as we learned about Evolution as an explanation of how life began on Earth.  We watched an animation which showed some dinosaurs with feathers, and explained how there are some birds in the world today that can’t fly, but have other talents which make them the best birds for their habitat.

Thank you to Ellie for helping to sum up the learning this week.

We thought about the kiwi in particular – can anyone tell me where kiwis live? Can P5 remember what the kiwi is good at?

Primary 6

Primary 6 have been learning all about bodies, bones and blood.  We measured different bones in our bodies, recorded the measurements and we are going to make a line graph using the data.  We made a model of the heart using plastic bottles, straws, balloons, tape, food colouring and water.  It showed us how the heart pumps blood.

In reading this week we all started new books in our groups.  Two groups are reading Roald Dahl and the other Michael Morpurgo.

In PE, we have been creating our own fitness routine to perform and teach Primary 4.  We worked well in our teams.
