P3 Are Magic!

P3 had great fun casting ‘magic spells’ this afternoon! We have been learning about magnetism in science and applied this learning to create ‘magic wands’ for our Hogwarts pupils. We used the power of magnetism to attract objects to our wands and even had wizarding duels. Have a look at us in action…

P3 Blog

Here are some of P3’s highlights of the week:

“We were learning how to play hockey in gym. We learned how to push pass and dribble.”

“We had to stand at the green line and push the ball with our feet on the ground.” Cadence

“In science we learned about Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen. He invented the x-ray machine during the Victorian era by mistake. If you are a scientist and you make a mistake, it can be a happy mistake because you can learn something new. It’s the same for our learning in P3!” Eve

“We learned about the skeleton. We had to cut out the bones and stick them together to make a big skeleton.” Olivia P

“We have been learning our times tables in maths. We need to be confident and count up in fives.” Aiden N

“In Maths Talk we have been learning to build a bridge to another friendly number to help us add.” Connor L

P6 Gardening

Today we spent a lovely sunny afternoon out in the school garden with Sarah-Jane. She taught us about the different vegetable families, including which parts of the plant we eat, what different seeds need to grow and how gardeners plant them. We then had the chance to get our hands dirty (some dirtier than others!) by helping out with jobs in the garden. We planted potatoes, sweetcorn, pumpkins, kale, onions, garlic, leeks, brussel sprouts and sunflowers. Thank you Sarah-Jane, it was great fun!

Magnetic Metals in P4

We have been learning about magnets.  The magnets have a North and South Pole and if you put North and North together they repel each other which means they push away from each other.  If you put opposite poles together they attract each other which means they stick together.

We also did experiments and found out that even if there is something in the way like a piece of plastic, the metal can still stick to the magnet.  We tested whether magnets work under water, we thought it wouldn’t work but it did.  We tested how close an object had to be to stick the magnet, the furthest away the metal could be was 4cm.

We also thought about where you might find magnets in everyday life.  We knew quite a few places where magnets are used to make our lives easier.  Can you think of any?

Primary 1/2

We have been learning about chicks this week. We were drawing chicks today; we drew yellow dots and then we put on legs, eyes, beak and made every chick a little bit different.  In our groups we made big pictures to show what we know about the life cycle of a chicken, and what they need to grow big and strong.

We were learning about caring people as part of Rights Respecting schools. We know children have the right to live with their parents or someone who cares for them.

P6 Weekly Blog

Last week we were very lucky because we were invited to Broxburn Academy for a science and technology day.  As part of the science investigations we used microscopes to view plant cells, we made fizz pop rockets, worked with ooze, measured our heart beat and pulse rate and made a balloon hovercraft.

In CDT we had to design and create a skyscraper in our groups.  We also got to meet other children who will be going to Broxburn Academy with us when we go into S1.

Last week we started our new topic about rivers and we have learnt all of the vocabulary assosiated with rivers eg tribulary, meander, mouth, source and estuary. Why not test us at home to find out what this vocabulary means! We are looking forward to our trip on Wednesday!

Primary 4

Primary 4 have been learning all about the digestive system. After discussing all the different stages involved in turning our food into nutrients and energy for our body, we created storyboards to describe the journey a piece of food makes.
