Nursery Update for 19th April

You will be aware that from the 19th April, the nursery hours will be changing to accommodate the Early Years Expansion, as directed by the Scottish Government.

We will still have cohorts in operation from 19th April to limit children’s contact with each other and the nursery staff.

Please find information below in regards to our nursery day which follow the updated Scottish Government guidance for schools and our local risk assessment, most of which you will be familiar with but we have updated this to reflect the change in hours.

P4/3 STEM Term 3 Topic

Good afternoon,

In P4/3 this term we have been learning about ‘forces’ as part of our STEM topic. In the topic the children have been investigating forces on toys and predicting the effect of a force on the motion of objects. They have also explored the force exerted on magnets and magnetic materials to contribute to the design of a game.

We worked in pairs to design a ramp that would make a ball roll the furthest. The children experimented with different angles, objects, and surfaces to design their ramp and then they had a competition to see which ball would go furthest. I have included pictures below.

The class designed a game using magnets and magnetic objects. The game had to be based on one (or more) of the 4 forces listed below:

Forces –

  1. Pushing
  2. Pulling
  3. Twisting
  4. Lifting

The children designed and played some really creative games. I have included some pictures of the games that the children created.

  • Jenga
  • Maze game
  • Marble race
  • Wrestling game
  • Collecting game
  • Music game
  • Crane game
  • Obstacle course
  • Magnetic hide and seek

P4 Space Topic

Our P4 STEM topic was Space – using the sun to explore the idea of time, days, months, and years.

We explored how patterns of the Sun, Moon and Earth are linked to daily life, seasons, time, day and night.  We also considered why it is important to understand how to tell/measure time accurately in our daily life and routines.  We identified how technology has changed to allow us to access time in a variety of ways.

On Friday we completed our paper plate sundials and waited for the sun to appear to try them out.  Thankfully we were able to get out for a short time.

Parent/ Carer Phone Consultations

You will have already signed up for a phone call from your child’s class teacher for Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday for the nursery.
At your allocated slot the class teacher will phone you with a withheld number. We would request that you make yourself available to answer the call at your selected time to ensure your consultation goes ahead as planned.
Our staff are looking forward to catching up with you all about your child’s progress.
