P3 Blog: Why do babies cry?

P3 enjoyed another visit from baby Belle today. Here is a summary of today’s Roots of Empathy session:

“Today we were learning about how babies communicate.” (Dylan)

“Belle was crying to show us how she was feeling.” (Eve)

“We could tell Belle didn’t like lying on her belly because she made a squeaking noise and started to squirm.” (Kayden)

“Sometimes when babies cry, you can sing to them to settle them. Belle liked it when we sang to her.” (Lewis)

“When it was time for Belle to go, I don’t think she wanted to leave because she liked our songs so much!” (Brooke)

Travelling to School

Our JRSOs (Junior Road Safety Officers) carried out a quick “hands-up” survey last week to see how pupils travel to school. They asked nursery -P7 pupils and they were very surprised by how many people are driven to school.

  • Walk – 58
  • Cycle – 8
  • Scooter/Skate – 13
  • Driven – 86
  • Park and stride – 38

Primary 2

This week, Primary 2 had a little taste of Italy!

Miss Pintus (Anastasia’s mum) came into our class on Thursday afternoon to teach us to make pasta from scratch!

We needed semolina, water and just a pinch of salt. We made these ingredients into a dough and were shown how to turn this into pasta shapes. We were even allowed to try using proper Italian tools!

We cooked our pasta for just ten minutes and then it was time for the all important tasting! Since there was no pasta left at the end, we award it a massive thumbs up! Miss McLaughin and Layla had a shot at making gluten-free pasta too.

A big thank you to Miss Pintus for coming in to teach us – we had a great time and learned lots!

Check in with us next week to see what we are learning!

Until then…
Primary 2 & Miss M 🙂

Primary 1

Primary 1m and Primary 1s have had a busy week. We are becoming knights of the castle.  The first thing a knight needs is a shield, so we have been printing our shields using potatoes from the garden.

Primary 7

This week we went to the Risk Factory, it was really fun. We learned about how to say safe.  We also learned about percentages.  We had to convert fractions to percentages and decimals. Also in PE we did Benchball and Basketball.  It was really fun. In reading we did compare and contrast and on the SRA box we answered questions about the text.  We also did a personal read with our reading books.

Stand Up To Cancer!

Ava B – “We were learning how to say our numbers to 31 in French so we can say our birthdays”

Abbie – “We have been creating place value posters to show our learning”

Rosa – “We have been looking at rhythm with Miss Mulholland. We played a game called Hot Potato to help us”

This week, we raised money for Stand Up To Cancer. We all wore orange and donated a pound for the charity.
