Sophie’s Learning

Maths

  • In maths we did a maths test to show what we know already we had to work by ourselves.  There were 45 marks.

Topic

  • In topic we were learning about money and drugs/smoking.
  • Our topic now is drugs/smoking.  We made posters to show why you should not smoke and what effects it has on us.
  • A woman from West Lothian Tobacco Unit came to visit and she taught us a lot of interesting things.  She showed us a jar full of tar and she taught us about more effects it has on us.

Rebecca’s Learning

This term I enjoyed and learning about the risks of smoking here are some of them: Cancer, Tar (the stuff in our playground but it doesn’t set), Yellow teeth, Smell bad

And many more!! In science with Mrs Campbell we were learning about magnets and how they work.  Here is some of the things we learned:

  • The blue side cannot connect with a other blue side the will just drift apart
  • The red side cannot connect with a other red side they will just drift apart
  • But if you but the red side to the blue side they will connect

Snowed under Sevens

In the past two weeks P7 have been extremely busy and had a lot of visitors.  We had Ali from Sweet Service in talking about how to run a business and what ingredients we need to run one. We also had a Michelle coming in and talking to us about smoking and the risks that can go wrong.

In writing we were writing a scene in the city called Winter in the City.  We only had 15 minutes to write as we used the Learning to Learn tool – WE GOT Time!

We were practising our Christmas song, Mary’s Boy Child to sing in assembly.

At P.E we were doing shooting into goals and catching the ball in a diamond shape like a goal keeper.

In maths we were learning about money about how to transfer into a different currency using an exchange rate to see how much it would cost here.

The Christmas Extravaganza

Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun at the Christmas extravaganza today. It was a great success. Congratulations to the choir for singing so sweetly and starting the afternoon off in style.  We sent a roving reporter round the busy stalls to record some of the activity for the Blog.

More details, including a total for the funds raised, to follow soon.

Stop Press! We’ll be on the radio!

We had great fun on Tuesday when Forth One presenters Boogie and Arlene came with their producer to record in our school.  We are one of the very few schools in West Lothian to be chosen for this feature on the Breakfast show.  We sang Jingle Bell Rock, then we all wished Forth One listeners a Merry Christmas, and got the chance to sing ‘Boogie in the Morning’ jingle too!  Then Boogie spoke to some of our children about Christmas, asking what they like about it, and they each shared a festive joke.

The recordings made with Boogie and Arlene will be broadcast on Radio Forth One (97.3 FM) on Friday 13th December at 7:40 am.

Reading Showcase – The Reading Journey from Nursery to P7

We were delighted to welcome so many parents and carers to our learning showcase event held on Wednesday 27th November.  We know that parents are keen to support their child’s learning and we were glad to share the approaches used to develop reading from Nursery to Primary 7.  There was a short presentation about reading given by Miss Speirs, then the children shared their learning with our guests and showed how reading skills are taught in our school. There was an amazing turnout with over 100 visitors on the night.  Thank you to everyone who joined us, it was great to see you there.

P7

Last week P7 realised they had a hidden talent for orienteering! We went to Lowport for the morning and worked extremely hard in pairs. It was really fun, even though it was a really cold morning!
