P3 mid-week check in

Good morning P3.

We hope you are all well and are staying safe at home.  Hopefully you have had a chance to do some of the activities on the P3 Home Learning Board.

Remember if you take any photos or videos of your work you can email them to wlpuscps@westlothian.org.uk or tweet them to us @PUSCPS and they will be shared on the P3 Virtual Learning Wall.

Has anyone been making rainbows at home to display in their window to cheer people up? We already have one on our Virtual Learning Wall.  If you have made one, send in your photos so we can fill our Virtual Learning Wall with cheer!

Take care,

Mrs McConville and Ms Cave

End of Term Assembly

Today we finished the term with a PUSCPS sing a long. It was fantastic to see the children singing along and dancing.

I shared a story about why things are changing for now.

Information on School Closures

Dear Parent/Carer

As we enter a period of school closures, the following arrangements are in place to ensure that your child’s learning can continue throughout this time.

The key source of learning will be using online platforms (virtual learning environment) however alternative arrangements will be made by individual schools for pupils for whom online learning is not suitable.

For children attending the nursery, suggested learning experiences that can be completed within the home will be provided on the school/nursery blog https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/puscpsnews/category/our-classes/nursery/ and on our home learning sway at: https://sway.office.com/qlp529z8T7AHHeIq

For children in P1-P3, teachers will provide a set of appropriate learning experiences that can be completed at home. These will be shared weekly through our school blog https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/puscpsnews/.

Your child has been provided with a jotter to record their learning and there will be an opportunity for them to share this when they return to school.

Children in P4-P7 are part of their class Microsoft 0365 Team, which can be accessed through their Glow account. Your child requires their Glow username and password to access their Team, and they are familiar with how to use this platform. Information for parents on how their child uses Teams is available at bit.ly/wlglowguide

It is expected that your child accesses their Team daily to engage with the learning experiences being provided by their teacher. The platform provides a function for your child to share their learning with their teacher and receive feedback where appropriate and support where required.

The use of Teams for communication is for learning purposes only between staff and pupils and ensures the safety of all users.

Parents / Carers who have any questions or require further information should use the following contact details. Please emails the school at wlpuscps@westlothian.org.uk ensuring your state your child’s name and class.

Further advice about continuity of learning at PUSCPS can be found at this link: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/puscpsnews/continuity-of-learning-at-puscps/

I would like to thank our whole staff team and community for their support, understanding and patience during this uncertain time. Our school team will continue to provide all available support to your child and family where we can during this challenging period.

Kind regards,

Miss Burton

Home Learning Opportunities

As you aware we have no confirmed cases of corona virus in our school.
However, we are aware that following NHS guidelines some children/ families are having to self isolate.
Currently our main priority is continuity of learning for the children we have at school, if schools were to close there will be home learning tasks made available and a strategic plan in place for how learning would be delivered which will be shared if there was a school closure.
In the short term if you are self isolating there are the following learning opportunities available:
  • P1-7 have Sumdog log ins that they can use at home.  Logs in are in their homework diary/ reading record.
  • P4-7 have glow logs in and should access home learning through their team. There is a literacy and numeracy task in their team to complete. More information here: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/puscpsnews/p4-p7-get-glowing/
  • P1-7 term 3 home learning choice boards on the blog: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/puscpsnews/term-3-home-learning-grids/
  • Some individual children have access to IDL log ins to support their literacy learning. Logs in are in their homework diary/ reading record.
  • Children should have their reading book at home
  • Visit our blog to look at learning experiences and leave a comment
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Miss Burton

Primary 3 STEM Topic Work

As part of our ‘Our Planet, Our Future’ topic, Primary 3 and been learning about the effects of litter and plastic pollution to the environment.

We have been researching how long it takes for materials to rot away after they are discarded and how our rubbish impacts on animals. Using the information found, we created posters and wrote an exposition to persuade people not to drop litter.

by Eva and Floraidh
By Connor and Jessica

With have also linked our topic with our work on food chains, learning how animals depend on one another and discovering how plastic can enter and pass through the food chain. We worked in groups to create pictures of different marine food chains and presented them to the rest of the class.

Our next step is to learn more about recycling and how to cut down on our use of plastic to reduce plastic pollution.
