A big well done this week to Tyler and Nikola who recited their Scots poems to the whole school during our virtual Scots assembly. You were both fantastic!

This week,  we have been successful learners looking at the work of Scottish Artist, Steven Brown.  We shared our opinions on his famous ‘Mcoo’ artwork. We  created our own Mcoo’s using pastels to layer our colours.  We have  also been learning  about who Robert Burns was and why we celebrate Burns Day.  We listened to his most famous song, “Auld Lang Syne” and talked about the time of year that people all over the world sing this song.

P2/1 were successful learners this week. We created tartan, focusing on different colours which links with our maths learning on pattern. We have been practising our Scots poems, Robin Reidbreist and Mince and Tatties. Today we had a chance to recite the poems to our classmates and also enjoyed watching the performances of the children who had posted on Seesaw.

As part of our Scots focus P2/1 listened to the Gruffalo in Scots by Julia Donaldson. Our challenge was to find Scots language in the text and identify the meaning. Here are some of the Scots words we found.

moose – mouse

hoolit    – owl

neb       – nose

keek    – look

dauner – walk

We have also been learning the Scots poems Mince and Tatties and Robin Reidbreist in class. Both poems are by JK Annand. We have all chosen a poem we would like to practice as part of our home learning.

Primary 2/1 had fun this week at their Christmas party. We played musical statues, Christmas corners, musical bumps and danced to our favourite songs.

We had a break for some party food then went back to the hall to take part in Just Dance on the big screen.

We all had a great time.
