Library After School Club – 13/09/18

Last week at Library Club we  looked at The World Around Us.

Moira read ‘Is a Blue Whale the biggest thing there is? by Robert E. Wells. It is a great book which showed how big things to us, like the largest animal in the world, the blue whale, are small compared to much bigger things, like mountains and stars and even the universe!

Did you know that a if you were to hollow out Mount Everest, the biggest mountain on our planet, you could fill it with billions of blue whales.

We then made owl light switch covers that will help us to remember to switch off our lights and think of what we can do to help this amazing world around us!

This week in library club we are exploring sharing. Come along to share a story.

Visit My Class

We recently held a Visit My Class event, giving families the opportunity to meet their child’s new teacher and to find out about learning and expectations in their class. Thank you to everyone who came along.

If you were unable to attend, you will find the presentations at the links below:

Our House and Vice Captains gathered feedback from families who attended the event by using a form on Glow.

Some of the feedback included:

What did you find out about your child’s learning that you did not already know?

  • Online ordering school dinners, library days
  • Personal reading
  • What they’re learning over the year.
  • The amount of natural resources etc. in the room
  • Change from traffic lights to corrective steps
  • Changes to Golden Time
  • What they are learning currently and the reasons for this
  • Liked hearing about the daily routine
  • Good overview of literacy and numeracy and how we can help. We’re all excited for the topic work.
  • What is expected of my children throughout the year. Also what topics can aid with their learning from home

What other information would you like us to provide during Visit My Class sessions?

  • How to use Sum dog

In what other ways can we support you to support your child at home?

  • Provide details of learning systems. For example, an empty number  line in Maths
  • All good
  • Continue to keep us updated
  • Indication of where may be struggling in anyway to help support
  • The blog updates are helpful
  • Small short meetings if needed
  • I am happy with the level of support that the school provides
  • More information about Maths please

Maths Week Scotland Assembly

Today we had an assembly to share our learning during Maths Week Scotland.

Mr Sneddon joined us from Virtue Money to  share with us the importance of Maths and Numeracy in every day life and for our future career paths. Virtue Money donated a free piggy bank and key ring to all our children to remind us why it is important to safe our money. A big thank you to Mr Sneddon for supporting us with our Developing the Young Workforce learning.

Our classes shared with us their learning during Maths Week which was all connected to their Interdisciplinary context for learning.
