Please note that children will not be dressing up for Children in Need this week. Â We will have a dress up day as usual on the last Friday of the month and this money will be for Children in Need. Â The theme will be onesies/pyjamas.
Warm Shoes and a Waterproof Jacket
It is cold, wet and damp and only going to get colder, wetter and damper over the coming months.  It is vital that pupils are sent to school appropriately dressed for the weather each day.  At this time of year we expect all pupils to have sensible footwear – (not little pumps or canvas shoes) and a warm, waterproof jacket every day.
Many thanks for your support in keeping your children safe and healthy.
Severe Weather Arrangements
As the weather is changing we have updated our Severe Weather arrangements for this year. Â These are the procedures we will follow in school in case of an emergency closure. Â They have been sent home with your child and are available to read here blow or you can click on the blue link below to download a copy to print out.
Please note the arrangements we will employ – in particular:
Children will only be released to persons named on file as emergency contacts – otherwise parents must call to give permission for another adult to collect their child. Â

Smoke Free homes and Zones
P6 have been learning about the dangers of second hand smoking. Â They produced leaflets to explain these dangers and parts of these were combined to make an information leaflet for the whole school. Â West Lothian Drug and Alchohol Service (WLDAS) produced the leaflets for us and I sent them home today with a leaflet on signing a pledge to make your home smoke free.
I would like to encourage you to sign and return the pledge as we would like as many families as possible to commit to making home a safe and healthy place to be. Â We look forward to counting the returns.
Many thanks for your support,
Steven Eagleson
Outcome of West Lothian Council Consultation on arrangements for Specialist Provision
Scottish Government Consultation on Early Learning and Childcare
The Scottish Government has proposed to increase the provision of free childcare to 1140 hours per year for children who are 3 or 4 years old, as well as for 2 year olds whose parents/carers are on qualifying benefits and are eligible for the 600 hours free entitlement through the Children & Young People’s Act 2014. With this in mind we are conducting a survey exploring how parents would wish to use this increase. The results of this survey will help guide policy on early years child care provision. In order for the survey to produce representative results it is important that we reach as many parents of 3 or 4 year old children from as wide a variety of back grounds as possible, this includes those who do not currently use free child-care provision.
The survey is available at the following link. https://response.questback.com/scottishgovernment/childcaresurvey
Summer Safe West Lothian 2015
Summer Safe West Lothian 2015
West Lothian Community Safety Partners have again launched “Summer Safe West Lothian” – a campaign aimed at keeping young people and children safe and to ensure that everyone has a safe, fun summer.
The ‘Summer Safe 2015’ campaign aims to ensure that West Lothian children and young people stay safe while having fun during the holiday period.
The campaign, which is now in its third year, continues to encourage residents of West Lothian to think about safety during their activities this summer. It is hoped that by raising awareness of possible issues, ‘Summer Safe 2015’ will ensure that everyone enjoys the holiday period safely.
Stay safe
With friends:
- Children love to go and play with their friends, make sure a family member knows where the children are going and when they will be back.
In the sun:Â
- Everyone needs some sun to help keep their bodies healthy, but overexposure to UV can lead to sunburn, premature ageing and skin cancer, protect your eyes and skin by spending time in the shade when the sun is at its strongest (11am to 3pm in the UK), use sunglasses, a hat and apply sunscreen to exposed skin.
In your garden:
- Avoid injury to children from sharp garden tools by keeping them in good repair and safely tidied away after use.
Around your barbecue (BBQ):
- Keep children, garden games and pets well away from the cooking area and keep a bucket of water or sand nearby for emergencies.
Around your car:
- Drivers should watch out for children playing. Be aware that you may have blind spots, where small children can be hidden from view. Young children and pets should never be left alone inside a vehicle, even when the engine is turned off.
