WOW!  We are so proud of our communities for the huge amount of food that has been donated for the West Lothian foodbank.  These very generous donations show how warm and caring a pair of communities we have here in Pumpherston and Uphall Station.  Thank you.  We will be sharing this warm community spirit this afternoon at our Harvest Assembly – 2:15pm  – we look forward to seeing you there if you can make it.
Thinking Back Looking Forward Pupil Profiles – P2-P7
Today pupils in P2 – P7Â will bring home their THINKING BACK LOOKING FORWARDÂ profile for this term. Â Â This is a profile of what your child sees as their progress in learning so far this session and also includes a summary of the pupils’ current strengths and next steps from the class teacher. Â Pupils in nursery and P1 will have learning to share through the Online Learning Journals system.
This is a new approach to reporting to parents for us this term and – as discussed in September’s newsletter – it forms a part of our FAMILIES LEARNING TOGETHER – SHARING LEARNING programme which we are developing this session.
We hope you find these new mid-year profiles more useful that the old-format final report in June. Â Please bring your copy along to your appointment on Wednesday or Thursday evening and you can discuss it with the teacher then. Â All pupils took home an appointment slip for parent appointments on Friday – if you don’t have yours – please call the office.

Watch the video of our first Families Learning Together session
Our first Families Learning Together session was a great success with a fantastic turnout.
There was a real buzz in the room and everyone loved having the chance to spend time talking to their child about learning.
Look out for the next session at 2pm on 16 November.

Families Learning Together – Sharing Learning with P2-P7
Remember our first Sharing Learning drop-in is tomorrow from 11am 12pm. Â You will have a chance to speak with your child about their learning and look at the work they are producing. Â The help sheet below will be available to help you get the most from your session.
It has questions you might ask and ideas for recording in the child’s work your comments on the learning.
If you have not already returned the slip from the invite please do so ASAP so that we know who to expect at 11am – especially if the person attending is not someone we already know. Alternatively you could call or send in a note.

Jak’s Den
Thank you for your donations today for Jak’s Den. The pupils love Dress Down Day and it helps raise awareness of the need to help others.
PSFA – IF NOT YOU? THEN WHO?
The PSFA (Parent’s Staff and Friends Association) is a small group of parents who meet when required to plan and share out tasks to organise fun events which your children enjoy. Â This included the Christmas Fayre, the Discos at Halloween and Summer and the P7 Prom among others.
The money raised supports your children in a variety of ways including funding licenses for educational software and subsidising all school trips.
Over the last few years membership has dwindled to a very small 3 or 4 who have continued to work hard to support your children. Â Currently the PSFA cannot continue to organise the same events, nor plan any new ones, without your help. Â Please come along to our PSFA AGM on Wednesday 5 October at 4:15 in the dining hall and see how, with even a small amount of time, you can support the experiences of all of our children.
Without more members the PSFA will not be able to continue as it has previously. Â IF NOT YOU? THEN WHO?Â

Friday 7 October 11am – Families Learning Together – Session 1
Next Friday is our first Families Learning Together – Sharing Learning session. Â This is for pupils in P2 to P7. Â Anyone from home is welcome to come along and share the pupil’s learning. Â Please ensure the reply slip is completed and returned so we know who is coming – for security. Â The invite below is downloadable from the link – has been emailed – and is in each child’s bag.
If necessary – a simple note to the class teacher on whom to expect will be sufficient.  We look forward to seeing you then and are all very excited at building on our programme of developing home engagement with learning.

P6 have been learning to make iMovies
Mr Eagleson and P6 have been making some of the movies mentioned in this month’s newsletter.
We all learned to use the app iMovie together and shared ideas and tips to make them. The stories are silly because the learning was about the skills we used to make them, not the content.
We co-operated, problem solved and used a variety of skills for learning, life and work. Check out our work below.
The movie below was made by Lewis, Miai, Mathew, Freya and Jed.
