Rotary Quiz Winners!!!!

Four of our amazing P7s – Donatella, Olivia, Rory and Kaden – today took part in the Broxburn heat of the annual Rotary Quiz.

The four of them were fantastic – sensible, confident and knowledgeable.   The team impressed and excited us all by winning the quiz – AND – because their score of 55 was the highest in West Lothian they also go through to the Area Final at St Francis Xavier School, Falkirk on May 19.  The winner of this round will compete in the National Final in Carluke on June 3.

We could not be more proud of our fantastic pupils.  Well done Team Pumphie.

Families Learning Together session 5

Yesterday we had our 5th Families Learning Together – Sharing Learning session.  We had a fantastic turnout and there was a great buzz in the room as mums, dads, carers, grans, grandads, uncles and aunts all spent time talking about learning with their child.

We have two further FLT sessions before the summer holiday and P1 pupils will also be included in these for the first time.

These are:  Tuesday 23 May 5pm-6pm & Wednesday 14 June 11am-12pm.

Respect for Others

Yesterday at assembly we spoke about respect.  We focussed on how to treat and speak to other people showing respect.

We also talked about the importance of taking responsibility for your own actions, how to put it right when accidents happen in which others are hurt and we talked about safety in the playground.

We discussed our playground rules, reinforced how pupils are expected to behave in the playground and made it very clear that any games which involve physical contact are not permitted.  This is in response to an increase of silly games involving grabbing, pushing and holding down, etc. which, like play fighting, always get out of hand.

JRSO Parking Problems Continued

Our Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) were out with their camera again this week and – once again – were very upset and confused by the inconsiderate and dangerous parking they saw.

This was made even more annoying because the group walked down to Drumshoreland Road where there were spaces for more than 10 cars within a 2 minute walk.

Is your children’s safety worth less than a two minute walk?

Cars parked on the pavement and on the yellow “SCHOOL NO STOPPING” road marking – both of which are criminal offenses.

Car parked on the pavement which leads to the library – again – illegal parking as well as inconsiderate and dangerous.

Cars parked in front of the bollards – blocking the road for emergency vehicles.  Unacceptable and unnecessary.

RRS Magale Assembly

Last week was our Shared Focus week on Rights Respecting School linked to our partner school in Magale.    Pupils have been talking all week about the rights which all children have – and how we are supporting pupils in Uganda to ensure they have the same rights. At assembly today the classes shared their RRS learning, below are some photographs.  A lot of classes considered the chickens which we have recently bought to help the school in Uganda be more self-supporting.

We were also joined by Mr Povey, our school Chaplain, who shared the work in which his church is involved supporting villagers in Tanzania.  We all thought about the rights to a home, safe drinking water, nutritious food and quality education.
