Primary 2S have been busy making herbal medicine. We went into the garden to collect ingredients then made up our medicines in class. We used our knowledge of natural ingredients to make something that would help Molly recover from the flu.

Primary 6 have been enjoying lots of STEM related learning this term. We started the term with our Scottish Inventors topic and are looking forward to sharing our learning from this in our class assembly this Friday morning. We have now started a new topic on the Solar System and had fun including visitors from home in our learning last week. We are learning about the planets in our Solar System and have been researching planets of our choice. Here are some interesting facts we have already discovered:
On Wednesday 13th March we invited our families to come and share our STEM Learning with us. They joined in lots of different activities with their children, you can see some the learning opportunities below.
Thank you to everyone who came along to join us.

Feedback from our survey included:
What did you find out about your child’s learning that you did not already know?
What other information would you like us to provide during Visit My Class sessions?
In what other ways can we support you to support your child at home?
This week the children participated in a STEM design challenge to create a sundial from readily available resources. Each member of the group had a specific role to play e.g. recorder, quality checker, team representative or resource manager to ensure that everyone played a part in the process. Groups had the opportunity to browse the available resources and then discussed their ideas of how to create their sundials. They then created their sundials before presenting them to the rest of the class, stating how they came up with their ideas, how the sundials would work and also discussing what they would do differently if they had to build them again. The children asked Miss Burton to judge their finished sundials. They answered questions based on the success criteria to help her to decide.
As part of our STEM focus, Primary 2S have been learning all about different illnesses and medicines this week, how to stay safe around medicines and what makes us feel better when we are ill.
Molly, the P3 class puppet is visiting us and she is poorly. We worked together to diagnose Molly, checking her symptoms against different illnesses and have worked out that she has flu!
Sarah Jane visited the class yesterday to tell us all about natural medicines that can be found in plants and the different ways they can help us feel better when we are poorly. We learned about the benefits of willow tree, ginger, garlic, aloe vera and sage. Thank you Sarah Jane! Â Next week, we are going to go into the school garden to find natural ingredients that will help Molly recover.
Our STEM topic has been learning all about forces. First we learned about friction. Then we investigated another type of friction: air resistance. We also investigated electrostatic forces. We learned how to write up a science experiment as a real scientist would!
