P2/1 – Thursday 14th May

Hello boys and girls

Oh dearie me! After being so glad to find out our quiz link worked it seems like yesterday the Story Time from Home link and rainbow video didn’t!  Well the annoying thing was it worked for some people and it seemed fine to me whenever I checked it.  Aren’t computers strange things?

Hopefully today will be better but if not please let me know, grown ups! This should be the Story Time link  below.

https://vimeo.com/418136334/6907595ba3

Thank you for all the messages and photographs yesterday – I had a lovely time looking at them all. I have now added the shape activities to Heinemann Active Maths for you to try.  In school, the teachers call this resource HAM because it is too long to write and say Heinemann Active Maths all the time.  When you shorten words like this it is called an acronym and we use lots of them in school.  One you will probably know is ORT for Oxford Reading Tree.  I thought I would mention HAM though because the grown ups might see it written down on learning grids and plans and get very confused!

  or ?

Have a good day and just keep doing what you can.

P2/1 – Wednesday 13th May

Hello everyone

A big thank you to everyone who has done the “P2/1 Come and Visit Scotland”  quiz.  I am so glad that it seems to be working.  If you haven’t done this you can still give it a go until the 24th May. Here is the link again.

And here is the link to today’s story which is all about a polar bear and  a rainbow.  It is quite a long story but it does have lovely pictures and a happy ending!

https://vimeo.com/417711947/671b658dc5

Something that has made me happy is all the lovely rainbow artwork that you have been sending me and in particular I have loved the rainbows made with water.  This has inspired my latest video which shows you how to make your own rainbow. Obviously some children know how to do this already and I would have loved it if you could have been my assistants – you know who you are!

I hope you enjoy the video and have a go at making the rainbow if you haven’t done so already – it’s great fun!

Music Time with Mrs McWhirter

Good morning P 1 and P2/1

I see that you have been thinking about all the bears appearing in the windows just now. It’s good fun hunting for them when you are out and about and I’ve spotted quite a few!

It reminds me of the story called “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”

Do you know that story? It is a bit like a song because there is lots of rhythm and rhyme in it. In the story there are lots of places to get through on the hunt and I wonder what instruments or sounds you would choose for them? They are

the long swishy grass                           the bumpy forest

the rushing water                                  the wild snowstorm

the squelchy mud                                 the quiet cave

If you don’t remember the instruments here are some ideas for sounds at home!

                                  .

Let me know what sounds you would choose and don’t forget the big fright at the end when the bear is found!

Happy hunting!

2D Shape P2/1, P2a P2b 12.05.20

Good morning, everyone!

What is your favourite 2D shape?  Did you make a Shape Collage?  Here are a couple of 2D shape collages we like.

Which one do like the best?  What shapes can you see?

Guess my shape:

I have 5 straight sides and 5 corners.  Which shape am I?

I have 6 straight sides and 6 corners.  Which shape am I?

You could ask someone in your family questions like this.  How many will they guess?

P2/1 – Tuesday 12th May

Hello everyone!

Here’s something a little bit different for you to try today! I have made a very special quiz all about our last class topic – Come and Visit Scotland. You will need a grown up to help you to read the questions but I hope that you have remembered lots of facts and will know the answers!

To do the quiz, please just click on the link below.

https://kahoot.it/challenge/09813464?challenge-id=f7e99898-d268-40ac-ab21-33079852aadd_1589148008860

(Grown ups – Please let me know if there are any problems with this as this is the first time that I have used Kahoot on the blog.as opposed to the  live version).

Below is also the Story Time from Home link. This is a new book that I had bought for school but hadn’t managed to read so I hope you like it.

I hope that you are enjoying doing the shape activities this week.   There is also  a separate shape blog page to have a look at if you have time this week but only do what you can.

If you haven’t sent me a message for more than a week, please get in touch and let me know how you are doing.. It is very important that we all stay in touch even though we can’t be together just yet.

Have a good day and try to get outside to play in the fresh air too!

P2/1 – Monday 11th May

Hello P2/1

Welcome back after the weekend.

Before you begin this week’s maths tasks  please watch these short videos on the BBC Bitesize website which tell you all about 2d shapes.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zbtp34j/articles/zfdvvk7

Here is the 2d Shape mat for you to look at that is also mentioned on the home learning plan.

The writing theme for this week is “bears” and all of this week’s stories have come from a collection of books that I keep at home rather than at school.  Hopefully this means that you won’t have heard me read most of the stories before so I do hope that you enjoy them.

Here is the link to the first story.

https://vimeo.com/416922192/67345b891e

Thank you for all of the messages and photographs from last week.  As I was at the hub school I wasn’t able to reply to all of you individually but I have enjoyed finding out what you have been up to and you have actually given me an idea for a new video which I will hopefully share with you later in the week. The picture below is a wee clue.

I am not going to tell you anymore for now  though!

Have a good day.

Miss McDermott

P2/1 – Friday 8th May

Hello everyone,

I hope that you have managed to have a go at some of  this week’s activities but also been getting outside to enjoy the nice weather too.

I also hope that lots of you got Mrs Webster’s message about wearing your school jumper or something blue when taking part in the Clap for Carers.  Jim, Matthew and I went outside and it was very noisy indeed – someone near us was even playing  a tune on their bagpipes which we listened to when everyone stopped clapping.

If you have been able to decorate a stay safe stone, remember to try and send a photograph or if you are out and about for a walk at the weekend why not try and have a look for some decorated stones.

Please remember to stay safe yourself though and don’t pick them up!

Have a good weekend.

Miss McDermott
