Don’t worry if you haven’t done the last few tasks, you can still join in from this point.
We’re continuing with up-levelling sentences around the Tunnel in the Hedge picture. I’ll be using some of your ideas every week to create a short paragraph about the picture.
The task is attached (in Word and Open Document formats). Please get in touch with any questions you might have, or if you need any help.
After watching, have a chat about the questions below. Asking questions can help you check their understanding and
start a conversation about their safety online.
1. Who did Tia want to send the pictures to at first?
2. Was Tia’s nan the only person they sent them to?
3. How did more people end up seeing the pictures?
4. What made Mo feel sad?
5. What did Kyle say about the friends sharing a picture with him in it?
6. What did the friends do when they found out that their photos had been shared
with other people at school?
7. What did Miss Humphrey say she would do to help?
Select Year 3 to begin with, and play all three games, noun, adjective & verb. (Remember Year 3 in England is actually Primary 4 in Scotland.) If you manage the Year 3 one, challenge yourself with Year 4.
#MentalHealthAwarenessWeek Tomorrow is the start of Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is #Kindness. We’d love to see you getting involved and emailing us or tweeting us your pictures @HarrysmuirPS
Tuesday’s Task is ‘Send someone a letter’ and Mrs Fairley would really like it if you could send her a letter to tell her how you’re getting on. You could post it/email it/drop it off to school 🙂
Oops…forgot to share the answers from Friday’s quiz! Here they are..
1. When you look for something, why is it always in the last place you look? Because when you find it, you stop looking!
2. A cowboy rode into town on Friday. He stayed in town for three days and rode out on Friday. How was that possible? Friday was the name of his horse.
3. One night, a king and a queen went into a castle. There was nobody in the castle, and no one came out of the castle. In the morning, three people came out of the castle. Who were they? The knight (night), the king, and the queen!
4. What has to be broken before you can use it? An egg.
5. It starts out tall, but the longer it stands, the shorter it grows. What is it? A candle.
6. What belongs to you but is used more by others? Your name.
7. What goes up and never comes down? Your age.
8. How can a man go 8 days without sleep? He only sleeps at night.
9. A man found an old coin and declared that the date on it was 150 B.C. This could not be true. Why? Because B.C. is counting backwards from the birth of Christ. If Christ hadn’t been born yet, there were no dates in B.C. yet!
10. Timmy’s mother had three children. The first was named April, the next was named May. What was the name of the third child? Timmy of course!

Good morning everyone. I hope you all had a good week.
Just thought I would let you all know that there is a new competition on Sumdog starting today. It is only for schools in West Lothian so we have a good chance of doing well. We need to beat Mr Blackwood’s class!! We need to have at least 10 pupils to take part to get on the leader board – unfortunately only 9 pupils took part in the last competition. Well done to PC,ZW, EP, CM and KJB for working hard on Sumdog this week – I have sent you 50 coins each as a prize!
MK thank you so much for sending your video to Mrs Matthews who passed it on to me. I was very impressed with your understanding of the experiment and great to see your smiling face.
I can’t quite believe that we are nearly half way through the month of May! As we head into another holiday weekend, I wanted to update you all on a few things :
We are missing your children very much and want to thank you all for your support with helping your children to learn at home whilst we are closed. We understand that it is not easy and appreciate how hard you are all trying.
As it is a holiday weekend, staff will not be online on Monday and learning for next week will be shared on Tuesday.
Sumdog is an online resource that helps children personally develop their Numeracy, Spelling and Grammar skills in a fun way. At Harrysmuir (Primary 3 – 7) the majority of children have used this resource in class as well as at home. Teachers will set work for pupils to complete and assessments to see their progress. Children can also compete against their friends as well as other children at Harrysmuir. Sumdog can be accessed through the internet and downloaded as an app. Many of the pupils will know their username and password but if they have any difficulties you can contact the school to help them get logged on.
Whilst P4-7 pupils can communicate with their teachers through TEAMS, we are very aware that our younger children have no real way of sharing how they are getting on with their learning. Because of this, we are looking at how best to sort this and we will let you know very soon about our plans!
You will have heard a great deal on the news about the re-opening of schools. Whilst no decision has been made in Scotland about this, staff are working hard behind the scenes to look at how we can bring back children and staff to school safely and we will let you know once we have any firm plans.
Please remember that we have staff in the school office from 8am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if we can be of any help. Amy McBrierty, our Family Support Worker, is also available through the school office.
Have a lovely weekend and stay safe.
