End of Term Party

We all had a super last day of term with Douglas the Clown and said our goodbyes to Mrs Nicol.  We wish her well in her retirement and we will all miss her very much!

Good luck to all the boys and girls moving onto P1.  Please pop in and visit us in August and tell us all about school.

Returning children come back to nursery on Tuesday 23rd August.  Happy holidays!

Wraparound at the Highland Show

Some of the Wraparound children went on a very special outing to this year’s Royal Highland Show.  Thank you to the grandparents who came along to help.  Gillan kindly reported back on behalf of the group;

“We had these goggles on and they take videos.  We made real candles with strips of these hard things, (wax) it was hot and squishy. We saw bees making honey.  I was looking through the farmers head to do a funny photo.  We are not actually dressed up, it’s not an actual farmer or an actual sheep, it’s just a cardboard plate.  We were doing some colouring in the wildlife tent.  We were practicing milking a cow. It was basically water coming out of a fake cow! The ice cream was yum.  My favourite bit of the day was putting the goggles on with the chickens and burgers in them (virtual reality goggles).”

Thank you Gillan for your fantastic report!

10th Anniversary Miniature Garden Competition

Children at Bathgate Early Years Centre took part in a Miniature Garden Competition as part of the 10thBirthday celebrations.

The winners were Mya and Abbie and the photo shows with one of our special judges.

The judges said “It was very hard to make a decision as the quality of all the entries was very high. In the end we selected two gardens which demonstrated careful thought and planning and involvement of the children themselves.”

Mvairi Lynch, Headteacher said “Once again this Home Learning project has been very successful – all generations of our families got involved – well done and thanks to all who participated!”

10th Anniversary Garden Fete

Bathgate Early Years centre celebrated the centres tenth anniversary by holding a garden fete on Wednesday 22nd June.  Children, parents/carers, grandparents and staff had a fun filled day going between the stalls including; photo with the garden gnome, hook a duck, raffle, tombola, bring and buy plants and home baking and handmade crafts stalls.  Children sang songs at the end, finishing off ‘happy birthday’ and 10 cheers for Bathgate Early Years Centre!  A fantastic £831.72 was raised.  This will help to buy new resources and pay for our end of term party.   Thank you to all our families for your continued support throughout the years. Look out for photographs in the West Lothian Courier.

Goodbye Butterflies

We have now said goodbye to most of our butterflies that we have looked after ever since they arrived as tiny little caterpillars in the post!   Over the last few weeks we have observed them growing and changing (metamorphosis) and building their own cocoons where they hid away for just over a week.   It was a very exciting time to watch them hatch from their cocoons as beautiful butterflies.  Please come into nursery and look at our learning stories to learn more.    Our Butterfly Garden School Kit came from Insect Lore .

The Blue group would like to say a special thank you to butterfly expert Emma Johnston from Butterfly Conservation Scotland.  Emma very kindly took the time to answer the email we sent with all our very important questions to help extend our learning.  Thank you Emma!

Children’s Questions

Tesco visit

Last week some children from the morning and afternoon group went on an adventure to Tesco, when they were shown around by Tracey the Community Champion.
The children visited the bakery where they saw the equipment and ingredients that are used to make bread and rolls and they tasted different types of bread while listening to the story of The Little Red Hen. They explored the fruit and veg aisle were they found out how the fruit and veg grows through different games and everyone had the opportunity to taste different fruits too. They also had the opportunity to smell and touch various produce at the fish counter. They also visited the store room, fridge and freezer where it was – 20! Brrrrr!  Tracey kindly gave each child a pack to take home which included a Farm to Fork certificate.

Learning French with Hannah

This week Hannah a languages student from St Andrews University, has been in nursery working with the children introducing them to French through rhymes and songs.  The children have been counting in French and learning colours in French. Learning to singing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes  in French (also known as Tete, Epaules, Genoux et Pieds)was fun and very popular with the children.   Next term we plan to continue our French topic and develop our international links by linking with a school in Cran Gevrier, France as the town of Bathgate has been twinned with Cran Gevrier since 2010.

John Newlands Procession 2016

Thank you to everyone who took part in this years procession.  The sun was shining and we had a brilliant time.   Well done to all the boys and girls and their brothers and sisters who walked such a long way all around Bathgate.   Special thank you to our very strong Daddies and Mummies who held the banners too.
